Where does Google stand now, with Search Engines and their ownership being divided between a smaller and smaller group of players? Are they still holding the upper hand, or is there something more sinister going on?

Based on the Bruce Clay Search Engine Relationship Chart (a full color pdf they distribute on the web for free, which shows primary, secondary, directory and paid SE inclusions), the major players can now be broken down as follows:

1] YAHOO owns INKTOMI and OVERTURE who owns ALTA VISTA and FAST and ALLTHEWEB
2] AOL SEARCH owns NETSCAPE SEARCH who owns OPEN DIRECTORY
3] ASK JEEVES owns TEOMA
4] LYCOS owns HOTBOT
5] EXCITE owns IWON

ON THEIR OWN:
GO is own by Walt Disney
Google is owned by Google
Looksmart is owned by LOOK
MSN is owned by Microsoft

So where is this all pointing? Will Google and Yahoo eventually partner and become "the" internet, of sorts? With the computing power involved between the powers, what is security.

If anyone has any thoughts, or corrections/additions to the above, I'd be interested to hear/see!
