A site that has good rankings in Google has just been re-designed. Pages currently ranking high in Google have been modified so they automatically re-direct to new pages. Re-directs are done using the following:

<body style="display: none;" onLoad="window.document.location='http://www.domain.com/index.html'">

How does Google view such redirects and will it index the page or follow the re-direct? My view is that this is essentially like fast meta refreshes and when Google catches on the pages will be penalised. What's the general opinion on this please?

I don't think google knows how to follow javascript links, use the WW search to look for I think is 302 redirect (permanent redirect) I believe it's a safer way to tell the spider that a page has moved.
