I'm fairly new to SEO. I started reading this forum about a week ago (I love it, of course). After much reading I optimized my index page and was pretty happy with the result.
I was happy because I knew that I was just in time for the deepcrawl and thought I had a only month to wait for the results.
To my surprise, I checked my SERPs 24 hours ago, and I was on top with my new page! Google had added it to its main index even though I uploaded it a mere 7 days ago.
I'm now at position 5 for my targetted keyword phrase, so some more shuffling must've gone on because of Cassandra. But I still don't understand how my new page was added to the index so quickly. I'm sure I am totally missing the way Google works, is this because of freshbot? If that is the case, why does everyone get so pumped about the monthly deepcrawl re-indexing if freshbot updates the index anyway?
Yep, it'll be freshy doing you a favour there.
Definitely won't have come from the current deep crawl, and Cassandra is based on crawling done nearly a month ago, so won't be that.
The problem with fresh listings is that they can be a bit transient... don't panic if it disappears and reappears over the next month.... and of course fresh is a bit picky about what pages it bothers to look at.
That's why we get excited about the monthly update - it's comprehensive and stable. Once the dance is done you can reasonably expect your pages to stay more or less where they are for the month.... unless of course freshbot visits your page or any of your neighbouring SERP pages and mixes it up a bit.
I am now finding out exactly how freshbot works by searching the forums. It's good to know I don't have to wait an entire month for updates on my index page.
