Maintaining PR throughout site...

How can I maintain PR throughout a site?

It was my understanding that if an index page had a PRx than any page hanging from the index would have a PRx-1. This theory holds true on some of my sites but not all of them. Better yet, I see some sites that maintain the same PR that they have on their index page throughout their site with the same number of backlinks. Am I constructing my sites wrong?

Any threads or help are greatly appreciated.

It's much more complex then that. It's easy to put hte PR wherever you want it, it just depends on linking structure. Search this forum for Google PageRank algo.

basically the pages with many incoming links and few outgoing (i.e. root pages) will rank higher then pages with many outgoing links and few incoming (such as sitemaps for example).

This has NOTHING to do with folder structure (VERY IMPORTANT, THIS POINT). To google the URLs are jsut one long identifying string.

To move PAgeRank about, you have to adjust your linking structure. Those pages with similar PR across the site must have very thouroughly linked pages.

Also remember that it is not always desireable to ahve the same PR on all pages. Some bring in more conversions from visitors (product pages) then others (home/fluff pages).

There is 1 advice I can give to you:

Don't use frames.

I made several sites for customers who insisted on using frames.
Now they pay the price.
When you would usually say linked pages have PRx-1 they have PRx-2 on these pages, at least for links to framesets. The frameset gets PRx-1 the frames PRx-2.
Not to mention the cases where google delivers 1 frame out of a frameset (say the navbar) in the SERP.

Don't think so plasma. I have a site in frames which has a PR 5 home page and all other pages with a PR of 4, including a links page with 77 outgoing links and zero incoming. Not a big site mind you, about 250 pages or so. A simple one line js script to load the right page will do just fine.

I've noticed on my latest site that the pagerank on my main page (PR4) is also the value for a lot of the other pages on my site, however it is only the pages that have links from my main navigation. Other pages (like news articles) that only have one link going ot them have lower pagerank. Internal structure is very important.

I'm not sure atm how google views subdomains though, because all of my subdomains have PR4 the same as my main site, I dont know wethere this is just co-incidence/good linking or inheritance... But one thing is for sure, you can "PR VOTE" inside your site the same way as you do for external links :)

I have a 70+ page site with all pages at the same PR. (almost)

I have a menu with crawlable links to all the pages. This menu is present on all pages. So every page is linked to each other.

It wouldn't look good with 70 links in a menu , but it's a javascript drop-down menu so it has about 15 main categories.

PR transfer has absolutely nothing to do with directory structure. It is all about linking structure.
