Why would my sites revert to very old cached versions?

My sites get indexed and then revert back to months old versions

My sites in Google keep reverting to very old versions - at least 2 to 3 month old versions. The sites are indexed and will have the freshbot go through them and then *poof* they will go to the old cached version.

Any ideas as to why this keeps happening? I suspect my sites are down or something when google comes knocking, but this is so regular -- my sites are almost never down from what I see.

Stumped.... Thanks,

Joe

Joe,

Freshbot listings are temporary. If freshbot doesn't come back often enough, then your listing reverts to the last deepcrawl-based listing. That's just how it works.

You can keep freshbot interested if you have sufficient Page Rank, and keep your pages updated. Minor changes will usually not do it.

Joe,

I had the same problem about a month ago before the monthly update which started on March 6. My site had PR value of 5 and ranked on page 7 and google kept the old version of my index page on its cache for a couple weeks. Someday google showed the older version and someday it showed a newer version but never the newest cache. Beside optimizing the site, I kept on adding some new content to the site and noticed that the bots came around at least every two days.

When the March 6th dance over my site moved up to page 1. I think sometimes google takes more than one update cycle to finish collecting data from some sites, specially sites that has little activity.

I'm also having this same problem, but to a greater extent. My site is deepcrwled, shows up great during the "update period",like yesterday (shows update pages in cache as well). Today it is back to the old pages from 3-4 months ago and shows the old cached pages as well.

Maybe this update isn't done yet and I'm just becoming paranoid since it has happened the last 2 updates the same way.

Any suggestion, I'm totally clueless.......

Thanks, Lacey
