Before and After update checklist

What should be on the comparison checklist?

Hi all - assuming the update EVER happens {whimper}, I want to make sure that I am checking everything that needs to be checked in the new results. Of course, you have your PR, rank in the SERPs, and backlinks. So, what else is there? I want to make a before and after comparison checklist. I'm thinking about making another checklist for my nearest competitor too so that I can 'learn' from their success and failures. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

I *used* to like to be able to check all my stats, links, back links, pagerank, the moon cycle, what color shorts I was wearing, and of course the ocean tides.

Then I got to a certain point and it did not really matter...

Please don't think I not into the update and don't either break down in tears or do funny dances at home... cause I do. I just don't see a need to spend too much time on this stuff.

My new mantar over the last three or four months has been:

keep it simple, write good pages, add content that matter and hope to make a few bucks in the process. I have found that if you do those simple things and are constantly working on things like:

- adding good content
- working on securing more incoming links
- writing pages that both visitors and google like

Then chances are more than very good that you will see a steady incrase of visitors over a period of time.

Again, nothing wrong with spending some time to see how things go update to update but try to understand that you can get booged down with stuff that does not help at all. Stay productive and do things that matter and you will see the rewards ;-)

Years ago I used to use web position software ... I then learned that google did not like it. From that point I used it about once or twice and then finnially got to the point and said...

does it really matter if I am ranked number 7 or 8 on the serp's for this term or that?

For me .... nope.

Maybe one of these days I will get to the point where I don't care so much but I'm not there yet. My site is still pretty new and I have over 500 pages now. So when it comes to optimizing, I want to make sure that I'm not wasting my efforts 500 times over. Yes, I work on content and backlinks too, but there again, I need to know what works. Thus, the need for a results comparison checklist.

Hey Pyewacket,

Everyone has to be comfortable in the way in which they work on there site. Wow ... over 500 pages ;-)

That is great, one of my main sites is over 500 pages too. I just try to use a simple approach to seo and not get too sneaky and it is working for me.

Good luck ;-)

Thanks Brian! I worked my arse off getting those 500 pages up BUT they are mostly all product pages. I'm in the pet industry so my current project is loading some good content pages to keep my visitors attention.

I'm not taking any sneaky chances on SEO. Besides, I'm still working on the basics so sneaky is over my head anyway. Ignorance is bliss! :)

Yes. You can get bogged down with numbers. Everyone likes numbers (you can't deny that). But sometimes it's best to not worry about numbers (think out of the box) and venture ahead at a rapid pace and see how well you end up. A day writing content or a day crunching numbers. You decide.
