Does anyone know if its possible to have a site in google which has only one backlink from a PR 4 site but has itself got a value of PR 6 from its own internal linking structure.

In otherwords, can I write a PR 6 site without help from backlinks.

Cheers

>Just in case anyone cares, right after I've read Larry and Sergey's "Anatomy..." paper for the first time I had nothing better to do than creating a couple of thousand pages just for the purpose of boosting our home page's PR. I've crawled our site and calculated the effects. Without taking inbound links into consideration, the real PR of the home page was about 300 or so. The toolbar PR went from 3 to 4 and there were no measurable differences regarding inbound links.

This could be due to slight variations of the PR of inbound links. As in, some went from a low PR2 to a high PR2. However, if creating a couple thousand bogus pages just increased PR by 1, even if that is what caused it this isn't a practical strategy. Particularly if you want to avoid a PR0.

Personally, I view internal links as ways to help the bots get to all the major sections of my website.

I have a site where the index page is PR 6, listed in DMOZ most of the main subpages are also listed in DMOZ (it is a site of celebrity biographies) and they are almost all PR 5.

The only two pages that every page (~120) on my site links to is the index page and the copyright notice page.

The copyright page has the dubious distinction of being in size 1 and at the foot of every page. It is PR 3, the only page on the whole site that is below 4.

This leads me to believe that:

1) Size matters (text size that is).

2) The fact that I used © as the anchor link, means that I have a very low "search index" for this, therefore it is a "meaningless" link, possibly on par with linking a period, old time spam technique.

3) Internal links must not matter much. I always assumed they were worth 10% of an external link... worth the trouble of making sure all your pages linked to every major section, but not worth generating 10 thousand of.

This may be a little OT, but what is the opinion, is it better to link to your home page as the domain or just the index.html page (or whatever your default is)?
