Since there are still 8.7 months of 2003 to go I'd like to file in my wishes for 2003, I hope there's still time.

Wish number One

- please get rid of the PR bar on the toolbar.

Wish number Two

- please get rid of the DNS entries that point to www2 and www3

Wish number Three

- 12 updates per year please?

Wish number Four

- disallow the link: command

Wish number Five

- get rid of cache:

Wish number Six

- don't become a portal

wish number Seven

- wish you to continue to rule the search business but with a humble view remembering where you came from, who put you there and how to best serve your users always.

none of the above features do anything for your users, so i wish they were taken away to avoid 20.000.000 posts of nonsense every year about a guessing game noone really knows for sure thus saving bandwidth, trees, maalox and time.

hoping you take my humble wishes into account i thank you very much for your valuable time.

best regards,
john

au contraire...
cache: is very widely used by users

secondly...
the PR in the toolbar *discourages* spam - you'd not know you were pr0'ed if it wasn't there! there would be no wave of panic over the cleanouts... people would carry on making a messy web, and users _don't_ want that

i admit the first point is better

Hmm...

I'd wish the PR in the toolbar was more accurate.

I'd also wish for more cache:, link:, etc. type functions.

That's just me though.

true, they should be viewing my site...
but many sites are down/tempramental/moved and if you want the info that google's pointing at.... the only way to get it is the cache...
ie.... the cache provides info people don't otherwise get. am sure nobody goes to the cache when the site works fine.. (excepting pdf transcripts)

"true, they should be viewing my site... "

When you think about it , they are. It's just someone else thats paying for the bandwidth.

Cache and copyright is always going to be a tough one but if your site was down for any reason im sure it is usefull.

yes, something to think about....feels strange to have your content served by someone else but also makes sense....
