Hi all, just wanted to ask if anyone had any idea whether Google uses the meta keyword tag, as I see that Google just recently started using the meta description. I have just written an article to help individuals understand how Google works and would love if you guys/gals could send me some comments to it. It is found at <snip>.
One last thing, I wanted to know who is powering MSN search or does it have its own index/crawler as I havent heard of any but want to know as I want to get more of my pages listed on MSN.

Hi philipzae

1. Please read the terms of service: [webmasterworld.com...] ... personal URLs and site reviews are not allowed.

2. [webmasterworld.com...]
will give you an insight as to which sources feed which searches

3. "does Google use keywords metatag?" Generally no. Far too open to abuse.... Google is more interested in indexing what appears on the page to the user.

Hello philipzae,

Welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com].

Here is the SE chart for Europe:
[webmasterworld.com...]

Google seems to use the description meta tag but only for words also appearing on the page. Keywords meta tag is not used or in the same manner as description.

We never even put it in. Its a waste of time - way to open for adult sites to slap keywords like "Mickey Mouse" in there and lure children to their sites.

Thanks all for the posts. I looked through the toc as deejay suggested but couldnt find which of the points related to me posting a link to an article about Google, that I asked people to look over and give their comments.

sorry to spoil the party...but they do count in a certain way. The meta-keywords tag must match the keywords found on your page, google will give this some value. All keywords you put in meta keywords which are not found on your page have no value.

The same is true for the Meta Title tag, in a way...so use the the same fuzzy logic here.

Further to Namaste. Allegedly, some SE, poss Google, actually count words in your Meta Tags not in your pages as spam...
