Taking the word of my main domain and results from my primary domains I get:

I enjoyed a steady top 5 google ranking for a kw which is a two word phrase for a highly competitive industry with a overture #1 bid for $20 for almost a year ... sadly this produced little traffic and also most of the visitors are webmaster/competitors ...

I firmly believe ranking for 1-2 word industry showcase kw's is not worth the effort unless for ego sake ... Money and hence ROI is in hundreds of more obscure terms used by real people who wants your product/service ....

My 2c

3&4# from 2.8 million

loads of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 from a million or so

1# from 65 000
The results from this one brings in 10-fold plus profits than others.

Of course when asked for "evidence of ability" from potential clients I give the "top results"

I have given up trying to explain "target key-terms"

Many see 2 million results and think page one must mean loads of dosh
Not true!

Talk about banging your head against a brick wall!

Not bad, but it hardly brings me any traffic though. The most referrals for my site come from these placements:

#4 out of 1,310,000
#2 out of 253,000

You know, I've never even checked single keywords. Don't care about them, the money is in the combos.

The one I'm proudest of is "countryname widgets", for which I rank #2. Only 217,000, but it's definitely where the money is. I'm also #1 for "countryname doodads", only 114,000 but lots of $$ there too.

My other site has better positioning for less-valuable, higher traffic terms. #1 of 532,000, and #2 of 175,000 are my highest traffic terms.

Doesn't qualify me as the champ, I know, but you asked.

1 out of 4570 or 2 out of 435,000 for the targeted two word phrases

the multilingual site is 5 out of 1,300,000 for the target two word phrase in English and for single keywords

Spanish: 1 out of 32,000
Finnish: 1 out of 3,790
French: 4 out of 486,000
Hungarian: 1 out of 4,840
Italian (new): 12 out of 60,500

I don't have the originals handy with which to work out what are the keywords in Japanese and Chinese

Hey I wonder how many 1 result garbage words are out there?

Finding one result with a good word is on thing, but finding the "keyboard whacked" one worders should be a bit harder...

All on Page 1, positions # 2, 4 and 9. Same company.

Results 1 - 10 of about 45,400,000. Search took 0.05 seconds.

How about by keyphrase demand as defined by Wordtracker (NOT Overture suggestion tool)? Most competitive term. To make it interesting we could even throw in that mixed with the lowest KEI.

I hate to ring in to strong, but I suppose I do pretty well with a couple of dozen in the top 3 out of 1 Million plus (quite a few at #1).

Of course, I can only speak for my own sites, whereas my clients receive my best work. I haven't submitted my primary business site in over a year, but Google still ranks me #1 for wholesale Internet service, reseller dial-up (no biggie there), and quite a lot of other pretty nice terms.

I try to list a few at vsix.org, but I don't give out my *secrets* there. ;-)

Heck, I never really look at what others are doing ... I just keep doing what I am doing. Maybe somebody can tell me how I am doing from an objective standpoint. For all I know, I may be the *Champ*.

Since subscribing to WebmasterWorld, Ive managed to get one site ranked higher for it's keywords.

Was 125th out of over 900,000 and is now 15th.

Im giving all the kudos to the friendly folks here [plus a little hard work on my part :)]
