When Google recalculates incoming links it means the update has begun. The links will change on www2 and www3 before they change on www. Yahoo is just a generic site with many links to query.

Thanks mbennie,
So where did the 692000 number come from? What does that quantity mean? Is it just any randon nunber and if they start to change google is updating?

692,000 is the current number of pages linking to Yahoo that Google has in it's index.
When the number changes for incoming links, (on Yahoo or any other site) it means the update has begun.

So the update monitor monitors yahoos links to see if google is updating?
Also are there other google update monitors besides this one?
