Hi,

If I do a search for www.mysite.com, Google lets me see links to my site, and sites that contain the term www.mysite.com.

These two numbers aren't the same. I seem to remember reading on this forum, that the links are updated ONLY during the dance. Is the list of sites that contain the term www.mysite.com updated by freshbot, or only during the dance as well.

I guess what I'm getting at is will the links after the dance include the 'sites that contain the term' before the dance?

Thanks,

ALbino

"Contains the term" and "Links to the site" are different categories. A link could be:

Cool Stuff Here!

And thus not contain the term "www.sitename.com" only a link to it.

Similarly a website could say:

Check out www.sitename.com it rocks!

And thus not contain a link to "www.sitename.com" only the term itself.

Thirdly it could be both:

Check out www.sitename.com it rocks!

And thus contain both a link to "www.sitename.com" and the term "www.sitename.com".

I hope this helps :)

Very clear! Thanks.

The 'contains the term' listing includes sites that link to mine, but which aren't in the 'links to the site' listing. This, I gather will be updated during the dance.

However, there are sites that link to mine that aren't in either listing (new links mostly).

I'm guessing that new links (updated during the dance) won't necessarily be listed in the 'contains the term' index (updated by freshbot?).

Thanks again.

No, this has nothing to do with the dance but rather with what ALbion said in the second example about a site mentioning your URL but not linking to it. Hey, this is a great way to work on link popularity. :) Write to all those sites that have your un-linked URL and ask them kindly to add a link. Cheers!

Perhaps not. The 'links' search shows only links from sites that have a PageRank of about 4 or above (perhaps a high 3).
