Hi,

Does anyone know if Google takes any notice of the <BASE> tag on a page when its doing its funky thang and calculating local links on a page?

Thanks

Welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com] mooseday.

IŽd suggest reading Marcia`s WebmasterWorld Welcome and Guide to the Basics [webmasterworld.com] post which contains a lot of useful information.

The BASE [w3.org] element has been part of the HTM language since version 1 (See RFC1866 - Hypertext Markup Language - 2.0 [faqs.org] 5.2.2. Base Address: BASE [w3.org]). Since Googlebot is a conforming user agent it must use the URI given in the BASE [w3.org] element when it resolves relative URIs. I have been using it for years and never had any problems with it.
