Hi Experts, both you new ones and those well seasoned --

I have a few <H2> links on my pages which are <A> anchors to other pages:

<H2>See More <A href="/widgets">Widgets</A></H2>

or maybe:
<B>The worlds selaziest collection of <A href="/">Widgets</A></B>

It seems to me that these tags don't get any weight at all. Who knows what G does with nested html tags?

I don't see why Google should treat these links or tags any differently.

The document structure seems a bit off in your first example. If an <Hn> tag surrounds a heading -- a phrase that introduces part (or all) of a document -- then logically a heading wouldn't be a link pointing elsewhere - it's a heading for THIS document.

The Googlefolk are quite strong in their academics. I wouldn't be at all surprised if nesting an anchor inside a heading means the H tag doesn't get any extra weight.

I doubt the programmers at Google are quite that pedantic.

Actually, I know of a page that has a link within H1 tags, and it does show up as a backlink for the page it links to. As for how much weight Google assigns to the link or the link text, who can say?

I'm not sure it's really pedantry. The whole reason for an algo to boost H tag content is that it IS a heading. If the H tag is being used in a way that's not a "real" heading, then why boost it?

Maybe placing an anchor tag within a heading tag will give an extra boost to the page in the outgoing link! (Not really!) ;)

So . . .

Are the tags weighted as <A> tags or as <Hn> tags?

BTW: My investigations point to neither.
