I've had the site up for a while and have paid to be in the directories/se that you guys have suggested.

I've seen post here that said that as sson as they where listed in Yahoo that Google started spidering them.

I've manually submitted my URL to Google too.

Yet GoogleBot fails to come by, it reall sucks that when a potential customer types in [my domain] into Google a link to mysite doesn't even come up!

Any ideas?

BTW This is a great site and resource.

For how long has your site been listed in the yahoo directory?

It could take some time. Freshbot may pick you up earlier (someone else may be able to advise better on this), but it could be 1-2 months before you enter google 'permenently'.

It takes a bit of time to get in, but in the mean time, dont worry, instead work to ensure you get a good ranking when you get in (link development etc etc).

Thanks I'm working on that, its just that I'm at a stage where I am solicting customers to my site (Not by spamming...) word of mouth.

And I'm finding that many web surfer just type in your name rather than your url into the web address box.

Thus they are unable to find even a mention from Google, thus making me look not legit.

I'm worried about PR rank, but heck I'd just be thankful for just showing up it they search on my name.

You may get in sooner - im not an expert on fresh bot, but its certainly not a time to worry about not being included.

PR isnt likely to be something to worry about too much - it takes time to build up, but you have mentioned getting a link from yahoo. Try and get a link from dmoz too (if you havent already done so). Basically keep working on PR and it will come - it can take a wee while though, but stick at it, and dont worry (yet!).

If you need a mention from Google, but you're not in yet, try using AdWords. I did this on my site by paying for ads under my own name until my site actually showed up in the SERPs. That way I could tell people I had a web site, and if they did a search they would find it. Now that it's in the SERPs, it's at number one for my own name (which fed my ego, even if hardly anybody will ever search for it), so I dropped that ad, but it was useful at the time. If you can afford a pay-for-inclusion search engine, you should be able to afford a bit in AdWords for a month or so. The ad under my own name was pretty cheap for a month. I spent less than $10.

If your in Yahoo then you will get found in due time, the dmoz directory is another good link. To do some R&D i put up a site and submitted via the google addurl form and no links anywhere... then i putup a site and got it into dmoz and another link. guess which one came first? the one based off of link, took about 2-3 months for the hand submitted one to come up properly.

March 17 should get you into the update at the end of april or the beginning of May. You might occasionally pop up in freshbot before then, but that will depend on what the PR of your yahoo category is.

Thanks for the input.

I'm doing the adwords with Google, and I submitted the site to Dmoz at the first of the month. Then I submitted to yahoo because I had read posts here that said they were spidered almost immediately.

As far as I can tell if a user searches with the name of my site it atleast comes up on almost all of the SEs but Google.

I don't know if anyone here knows what the statistics are but evidintly many people use SE to go to their sites instead of the address box on their browsers.

I'm just having a hard time getting people to join even though they know the site is in the early stages because when they type in the name of the site into Google it doesn't even retreive my URL. This is my number one problem.

I know I have to be patient but I'm in awe with Google now.

Google has been my default web page on my browser for years. I've been writing mission critical software and my site is my first commercial site. I'm really dismayed that it takes this long to become part of the largest SE.

I understand Googles concept, but they are missing the boat by not taking a small fee to just include your website name in their index.

This is great for established businesses because it raise the barriers of entry to new comers.

I've gotta tell ya, I'm losing a little love for Google over this.

I don't think that a freshbot visit is very likely until a site has a PR of 4+ and regular content change.

All you need is one link from any site that is already in the Google index. It doesn't have to be Yahoo or dmoz.

jr, i work for an seo (reputable one btw) and can tell you from my own experience that inbound links are the most efficient way of gaining access into the google serps. we built a site for a client that went live in late november and did all the normal optimization steps to get very well placed on the inktomi fed engines in less than a week from the first submission, a total of about 50 positions i believe. the client had the responsibility of developing their own reciprocal links at their request. one week turned into several months and by mid february, the client had developed no inbound links. by late february, there were 3 reciprocal links established by me with websites that had a pr of no less than 4. the march re-index began roughly around friday the 7th, on monday the 10th the google results trickled down to yahoo and on the 11th to aol and netscape. when all the dust settled, the site had 7 top 20 positions in google, 10 top 20 positions in yahoo web matches, and 10 top 20 positions in aol. of course there are no guarantees that the same quick results will happen to anyone elses website, but the only difference in the submission process was the addition of the 3 inbound links that produced immediate results, and a happy client.

I've been going back through my logs and found the above ips went to 10 different pages on my site. They seem to be google ips. This occurred on 3-21-03.

Its time consuming to find these because you have to cifer out the ones from Adwords.

So if those are googlebots how long will it take for my pages to appear? Sorry to be redundant.

Also Altavista seems to have spidered my entire site today.
