I would suggest installing the Google toolbar. Similar to the suggestion by bigdave, run searches with 100 results. In the Google toolbar on the left side enter your URL or website name. Do not hit enter. Instead, use the Google toolbar highlighting function on the right side. Your search term will then be distinguished from the other results.

If you visit your site and then search, your site will stick out like a sore thumb, as it will be the only one with purple linkcolour :) And yes it is helpful to know whereabouts you are ranked on google even if it is pages down, sometimes you wonder if you are ranked at all :P
