A has 100 pages.
B has 10 pages.
Every page on site A links to the homepage of B. B does not link back.
I had no idea they were on the same IP until today, when I was updating some whois info.
Could this setup potentially flag me?
Now way! As long as they are running under two different tld or canonicals they are treated as two seperate sites - no matter if they share a ip.
A friend has 2 identical sites with different domain names but the same IP.
Backlinks show up the same for either site (when in fact they point only to one or the other.)
So they are being treated as the same site.....
If sites have different content and different url's ... they are treated as separate sites. However, linking from every page is (IMHO) way overdone. Others may feel differently, but if you can work in a text link here and there, it is much healthier for both sites and will likely give site "B" a bigger boost in the SE's.

Its just interesting that backlinks are treated as "shared" and "similar sites" brings up a pile of unrelated sites on the same box.
Actually "interesting" is probably too strong a word in this case..
My own observations have not indicated a penalty for heavily linking just two domains, if there were four I would be very wary of linking them all to each other. Of course we never know what Google's filters will be next month.
There's still potential for innocent penalties IMO. If you have five or ten sections of a Web site on a domain, then you might wish to have a common navbar linking them all up. Why shouldn't you have that same navbar if you happen to have those sections on different domains?
We know the answer, of course. People started to produce heavy crosslinking strategies in order to exploit Google's weighting boost for anchor text when it comes from another domain. The real problem is that any search engine would infer anything meaningful from domains. Just IMO. and the days of heavy cross linking for link inflation are gone, people have found other methods of exploiting the off-domain anchor text boost anyway
Actually, ciml, they are completely different sites. The links at the bottom of site A to site B just say something like "Designed by Site B." There is no linking back to site A from site B. I am aware that 100 links could give site B a decent boost but I don't want to do it if these 2 different sites sharing the same IP become red flagged because of it.
I would imagine that my hosting company has other sites sharing that very same IP as well. I think it's very common with your average hosting company, isn't it?
I am probably going to ask my host to give one of these sites their own IP address but I wonder if that's going to affect future spidering somehow.
