Creating pages targetted at keywords

Will google penalise this?

I' ve built a site with approx 60 pages.

I want to create pages for specific keywords, which will be very similar - i.e widget, widgets, widgetting etc.
Each page will therefore have similar content.

I intend to put all these pages in a directory of their their own, where I will link them to an index page (with a single link back to my root page), but not to eachother. Each page will link into relevant content pages.

Will google object to lots of similar pages?

Is there anything else I should consider or be aware of?

Regards

Steve

steve,

I really think you should play it safe and try your best to put unique content for each phrase you want to optimize for.

>Each page will therefore have similar content.

How 'similar'? ;)

If you were a visitor would each page be valuable to you or far too redundant?

I know you are trying to optimize for various 'landing' pages, but think of visitors first.

I intend to put all these pages in a directory of their their own, where I will link them to an index page (with a single link back to my root page), but not to eachother. Each page will link into relevant content pages.

Thinking in very basic terms helps IMO. If you show your visitors one thing and attempt to show Google another for the purpose of getting pages ranked with very similar content...it's more bad than not. ;)

If you can get those pages to have unique content all the better.

>Will google object to lots of similar pages?

Will people? Best to get more opinions, but if what you plan promts you to login here and post a thread called "Will google penalise this?" you answer your own question in a way.

>Is there anything else I should consider or be >aware of?

Although you will get much better informed opinions, they are still just that. You must weigh the potential risk vs potential reward.

With 60 pages it seems like you'd have room to optimize for multiple key phrases using unique content.

Sometimes it's hard to fully understand without seeing the site.

I'm sure you'll get many more experienced opinions than mine.

if all the pages are very similar then they dont offer unique content to the user. at some point a SE or competetor will notice this and it will backfire on you.

do a bit of research and write unique content for thoses pages and watch the site succeed.
