A few questions about google...

I run a pretty new site (about 2 months, although the forums on the site have existed for around 8 months) both are indexed in google, but when i search for either with the term "link:sitename.net" it brings up no links, but there are links going to both sitname.net and forums.sitename.net, like i said one listing is rather new, the other is a few months old.

Next question is about pagerank, is pagerank only a measure of how many pages link to that site?

What effect does having more pages on your site have on rankings and PR?

One last thing, how does the googlebot work? As far as i understand it, the main googlebot indexes the main page for your site and then hand it over to the freshbot (if a deeper crawl needs to be done). Hoiw long does it take to happen...

Any replies would be great thanks, and sorry if i posted this in the wrong place or there is a faq somewhere that can answer this :)

Welcome futureX! Use link:www.yoursite.net to see your external links and keep in mind that Google will only show links with a pr4 or higher.

Welcome indeed!

Actually, it makes no difference with my site if I do a link search with or without the www. Both searches bring up the same number of internal and external links.

In your case it's probably just that your site is new, possibly combined, as Birdman says, with low PR of pages linking to you. Give it time, and cultivate more links. Links below PR4 are still valuable!

For your other questions, Birdman is right to point you to the knowledge base. You'll find lots of good stuff there.

Good luck!

To see more links to your site use www.alltheweb.com and search for link.all:my.site.com.

This will give you all the links that AllTheWeb knows about, irrespective of PR.

As MeditationMan said, Google counts the contribution of links from pages with a PR of less than 4, it just chooses not to show them to you.
