Best Strategy for me...

new pages or new URL?

At my bricks-and-mortar, the Web site has become a surprisingly good referrer of new clients. Suddenly the Sales Dept guys are hanging around, telling me how pretty I look today, and offering to polish my shoes and carry my books for me.

They want me to make a site that targets not "widget repair Ourtown", but "widget repair" + 5 surrounding cities, individually, hoping that once folks see us, they will fly here to get their widgets repaired.

I am considering getting at least one new URL, maybe 5, and linking heavily to our current site; a neccessity to avoid duplicating content. I could avoid linking back to the new sites. I only have a PR of 5.

Or, would I be just as well off simply creating new pages on the current site? The current targets "Ourtown" heavily.

Well I would create different pages on the same site - maybe two or three new pages to target these other terms.

I would also check with the Overture suggestion tool and with wordtracker.com to see if "outworn area" is actually searched for. If it is then go ahead and build some new pages.

You may also want to think if there are any other words related to "outworn" that you could use; again use the suggestion tools.

"outworn area"? We are assuming that since every major city has at least a couple widget repair facitlities, if you were in need of such service and you were in Houston, you would search for "widget repair houston", otherwise, you would get a cluttered list including repair shops in places like Boston and Seattle. But, if while searching for "widget repair houston", you came across an exceptional one in Waco, you might just go there. I want to be sure I am found, but my site is optimized for "widget repair waco".

By "area" I meant houston or dallas or whatever city you choose to target.

As stated before I think you should have secondary pages (linked from the home page and probably other pages) with these keyphrases on (I assume that your home page is optimized for your primary keyphrase(s).

Personally, I wouldn't bother with additional domains as this could lead to multiple listings of these sites in Google for "widget repair" (even if they are targeted towards different cities). If a competitor sees this then they may report you to Google for having too many duplicate pages and your sites may well be banned for a time.
