Google preferences changed?

opening results in a new window

Weird. I was searching Google when all of a sudden my results started opening in a new window.

This confused me greatly, until I looked in preferences, and the 'open results in a new window' box was checked.

Now, I didn't check it, so who did? Did Google change their preferences settings or is this just a glitch?

Accident on the users side?

I prefer the new window thing. Before you know where you have been clicking you've lost the old Serps and search query.

I would not mind if they made it default with opt-out.

Not possible because I searched for one thing whch opened in the same window, and the next search in the same (Mozilla) browser window opened in a new window.

Guess it's just a glitch.

I use new window in IE, but in Moz I just open results in a new tab, which is much better - don't have to have a million things in the toolbar at the bottom, whatever it's called.
