Is it better to have keyword link from a site with high page rank or high positioning?

High page rank. But it's not PR for the site, it's what the PR is for the page itself that your link will be on.

I've never seen evidence that Google cares where the link is on the page, thus go for the better anchor text.

Hi talismon,

Though, I do not have much experience in this context, what I have noticed is getting links from high page ranked sites rather the similar page ranked sites of similar industry, is a better approach. Its easier to get these links if similar page ranked sites of similar industry ( but not your competitors obviously).

You can also increase link popularity by adding into various directories with categories related to your industry.

The Open Directory : Dmoz should be the first step. The data is provided to a large number of search engines and directories including Google.

It should be said though, that a link can drive excellent traffic. On one site a link from a great community type resource is my #5 in referrals, and it's the best qualified traffic I get. PR of the linking page? 4. I wouldn't trade it for an unrelated PR7.

Thanks everyone,

I had the webmaster for the #1 site in google under our main keyword put a link to our site for "widgets" "discount widgets" and "cheap widgets".

His PR is only 4 while ours is 7 but I figure if google sees his site as #1 this should boost us up a bit since we fell way down after the last indexing.

He has put his internal tracking on those links but they are going to our homepage, I dont think this is a problem for google but am not sure. Any advice on this?

Once upon a time, that was the main reason for getting links.

Haha, so true dwilson.

For awhile I was taking the whole Google thing a little too seriously, then, once I stopped doing as much, and just built the site for its visitors things just kind of fall into place.
