Site removed from Google directory- what does that mean?

Hi:
Our site used to be listed at the top of its repective category in Google's directory, with a high PR bar displayed alongside it. I just noticed today the site has been moved to near the bottom of the category, with no PR indicator at all.

What does this mean? Is it some sort of penalization? Google Toolbar still displays the same PR for the site as before, though I get the feeling this might change soon. Any insight appreciated.

it means that it has been removed from the odp. look at dmoz.org. if you can't find it there, an editor must have moved (or removed) it for some reason.

Hi:
Well as mentioned, the site is still listed in the category, just moved to the bottom and stripped of any PR indicator. That's what worries me. I guess my question is if this means a pending penalty of the site on Google itself or its PR value.

We've got one like that too. Since it's first inclusion in the Google directory about 2 years ago it's sat at the bottom of the category showing no PR. On the Google toolbar it shows as PR6 which seems to be right from the PR it passes on to linked sites.

I think in our case this has something to do with the original domain name being registered with Lycos and they have messed up the forwarding, since every so often the name suddenly points to a non-existent Lycos page. (We're still trying to transfer the domain away from Lycos but it's turned into a very long process...) This also messes up the search results as Google (but no other SEs) lists two versions of the site - one that doesn't exist...

Maybe your site could have something a bit strange going on that's confused Google?

I think that these sites were down during the (last month)crawl, and therefore were placed at the bottom without pr indicator.

I have not read this anywhere,so i could be wrong.

I've seen NEW sites show up at the bottom with no PR indicator. Don't know why that would happen to an existing site. I'd be surprised if it were an indication of a pending penalty.

I haven't heard of this being caused by a site being down during the last crawl. I suppose it could be one of the reasons - but, if so, I'm pretty sure it's not the only one.

Thanks for the responses. So I guess no one really ones what could be the cause? Our site hasn't been down for the last few months, at least not any noticable amount of time.

Wait 'til next update and see if the PR bar goes back up in the directory. Sometimes these Google oddities seem to just happen and then go back to normal the next month so far as I can see...
