Back in January one of my domains for reasons unknown to me was listed in ODP in an unfitting*) category, with an incorrect description and a misspelled title. It is still there though I have twice asked for its removal, but that is an ODP problem and really should not be discussed here.

ODP listings are viral. So are naturally ODP mistakes. Now this mistake has reached Google Web Directory. And it's worse here. Problem is that while in ODP this incorrect listing is buried way down a list, in Google Directory it is #2 in its category.

This category is visited by VERY competent people. They will unavoidably get the impression that I am even more incompetent than I actually am. I cannot say that I like them to have that opinion of me. My ignorance is large enough without anybody having to actually overestimate it.

I would like to have that listing removed. Do Google ever edit their Web Directory by hand?

* I personally regard this domain as a small personal portal. (Others may have differing opinions.) It has got several separate websites on it. Some of them fit into the mentioned category. Others don't and are listed in several directories (incl. ODP and Google) in their appropriate categories.

troels,

Would a redirect-by-referrer be of any help here? Just an idea, and a way to bump your thread. :)

Then these people don't know how the ODP works. It is quite possible for an editor to list a site without it ever being submitted. And the site owner not being aware of it. Thus, if a listing is botched, this should only reflect on the ODP editor.

This is an ODP issue. I doubt very much Google would bother to go in and edit the description. The next time they refresh their directory it will just go back to showing the original listing anyway.

Thanks for your input. An editor has now removed the listing from ODP, for which I am thankfull. And I guess that I'll just have to wait for Google to update their directory again.
