PR drop on site.

Due to guestbook links?

So after this last dance one of my sites dropped from pr5 to pr4. I am assuming it was due to all the guestbook links.

I used to host people on the site and they would sign many guestbooks(thats what teens do). It went from 110 down to 26 backlinks when I do a link:dowmain.com search.

I am not really upset by this, I just figured I would share that many of the guestbooks no longer count.

I never did any SEO for this site so it may be time to start.

A lot of people are reporting seeing less backlinks. Could be due to some falling below PR4. Also, maybe Google has nudged up the level they report backlinks. The toolbar appears to show rounded down PR. However, if Google now shows backlinks of PR4.9+ rather than PR4, this would mean you'd see less. I'd suspect that if Google sees guestbook links as materially skewing SERPs, they start trying not to count those they could spot. Most guestbooks are standard scripts that should be easy for a bot to pick up on and ignore.

Thanks Craig. I actually had the newest toolbar on here. So it seems to reflect the last dance.

Last night i was getting some flucuation between 4 and 5..today it seems to have settled at 4.

Like I said I do not really mind. It came from being lazy on my end. The main reason I created this thread was to raise awareness on the guestbook issue. It was also addressed here:

So it seems like the algo update does not care as much as it used to about guestbooks.
