search criteria

Is text on page used or meta descritption

Hi,
I've noticed in the latest google update that my pages are being analyzed useing the actual text of each page. The previous page recognized my pages based on the Meta title and Meta description.
Do the Meta title and description have use anymore?

Several have said they still like to match up the page title with the meta title, and I know that Google 'occasionally' uses the meta description in some of our sites, but I believe they ignore the meta keywords all-together. I wouldn't leave any of the meta tags out though - last I looked there were still some other search engines out there....
