Links to site as found by Google

Hi I'm pretty new to this forum and the Google Dance. Could someone explain to me whether the links google sees get updated now or later. Before the dance I had a good number,many from my previous site, I've now completely redesigned the site, seem to have jumped up some pages, some page 1's yet my links now are only 20! Having lost any assoc with old design but not gained any from new.

Id say its still in limbo. But what we've seen thus far is google has changed the algarythm a bit in how it counts back links from sites. Ive seen some of my sites backlinks go from 93 to 8. And others go from 231 -> 488. The one that dropped from 93 -> 8 many of the backlinks were on sites on the same block of ip addresses. Ya i host tons of sites and they have a link at the bottom. Seems it didnt like that much after 2 years ;)
