Getting different results form Google on my site.

One time I'll have page rank, other times gray bar.
I'll have back links and 900+ pages indexed and later one page indexed and no back links.

How many days does it take to see stable results on Google?

Only 2 of the 6 data centers have the new index. So the update is about 1/3 complete. At least another day, perhaps two.

We don't list urls here but if you do a Google search for Google Dance you'll find tools and also sites that will tell you how many data centres are updated.

www-ex.google.com 216.239.33.100
www-sj.google.com 216.239.35.100
www-va.google.com 216.239.37.100
www-dc.google.com 216.239.39.100
www-ab.google.com 216.239.51.100
www-in.google.com 216.239.53.100
www-zu.google.com 216.239.55.100
www-cw.google.com 216.239.57.100

www-sj and www-zu redirect to other data centers.

So which data centers have updated indexes and how do you view them?

You can either go to each and check the backlinks for Yahoo
(i.e. link:www.yahoo.com) or find one of the automated online tools that does it for you.

So where is best place to see new results. The data centers or www2,www3

I was sitting at #2 on www2 and www3 for 2 days but now I am #8 on www2, www3 and 2 of the datacenters.

Will it change again, or once it goes to a data center is that it.

same thing for me. The've increased the # of results for my key search term 3 times during the dance.
Pretty stressful going back and forth from 132 to 19 to 132 to 26 .... (but overall looking great for me - thanks WW (:-]).

Because of the way Google does load balancing, searching from www is inconsistent, especially during the update. The dns resolves to the IP of one of the data centers, but it can be a different data center each time you search.

www2 and www3 are more stable because they usually resolve to the same IP.

Not sure, but I think that they simply tell where the centers are located.

There are various explanations around. This may be partially accurate list of the letters and their associated data center:
  • SJ -- San Jose, California, USA
  • EX -- Exodus Communications, USA (an ISP?)
  • DC -- Washington, DC, USA
  • VA -- Virginia, USA (AOL!?)
  • ZU -- Zurick, Switzerland

    The others I don't know.

How come googlebot (216..) has not visited me yet.

I have had freshbot (64..) come by many times, but last googlebot was Feb10.

Does googlebot spider for March affect googledance in April?

It's on the 5th data centre now.

It's easy for me to see this. I just query on one of my sites that has remaining PR and check out those datacentres where it no longer appears when searching for its domain - i.e. PR reduced to 0.

Looks like they missed a site this time (it still has +ve PR) but I'm sure they'll get around to it next time.

So well done to Google. All my sites but one now PR 0. It makes me wish I'd stuck some spam or x-linking or something in there. Or a least a "Google sucks" page.

    What a joke.
