Can someone explain to me?
DMOZ produces RDFs -- dumps of all its data -- and RDF users such as Google copy/edit them to create/update their directories.
This is a separate process to Google re-indexing all the sites it has crawled.
DMOZ had a bad few months and produced no useable RDFs between 2002-09 and 2003-02.
They now have working RDFs but Google has not yet used one. I believe they are on record as saying they will "soon".
checking on the google web directory there is obviously no RDF update on there yet.
however doesn't it make sense that there is probably another server which contains the new minty fresh Google Web Directory and is used by the new index to build its SERPs?
At some stage during the update this will be transferred to directory.google.com.
i did try www2.directory.google.com but nothing there ;)
For example, a search of "some keyword" found a site whose results includes a link to Home/some_cat/ .
I created that category about 8 weeks ago. As of this minute, clicking the category link cause DGC to display a "cat doesn't exist" error page. Nor is the category visible when navigating DGC itself.
By the time you read this, it might be there. :)

[edit reason] sorry, no specifics and urls / thanks [/edit]
However, when i actually check the directory listing for this heading i find that my site isnt there.
Does anyone know if goolge uses new directory listing before they are actually put onto the web, or is something else happening here.
Also, when should these www3 results go to www?
There seems to be a little delay in getting the results on www - maybe this is why?
http://dir.google.com/alpha/interesting one gaga.. I didn't know about those pages at least - still the old directory though, minus any order by google rankings.
