it is annoying and i think it gives a reminder to the user "this is an ad" before they click it. i bet if they remove it or at least make it less "in your face" it would encourage users to click more.
even "google ads" would be sufficient ..
i thought i'd give adlinks a shot.. soon as i saw the BOLD "Ads by google" i took them down.
i mean on top of the many O's they put they make it bold! so the normal ad links are regular and the google link is bold.. kind tells the user to click it instead of the actual ad links..
even so, they should at least put the "Ads by gooooooogle" on the bottom of the skyscrapper not directly at the top before the ads!
am i the only one that gets annoyed by this?

That's sort of the idea....
It is hard for me to be annoyed with some thing that brings in 65% of my income...
I'll drink to that...
I will....
my site i dont use big white bold text, so it doesn't give a good appearance when you have normal links everywhere then this one bold link powering the rest of the text.
i do think the "goooooooogle" is bad business practice.. doesn't look very professional

Once upon a time I wrote AdSense support and asked about the "gooooogle" and they claimed it was some test they were running, alternating it on certain sites claiming it might be improving the branding and the CTR.
My site has "Ads by Goooooogle" all over the place and the checks they send every month with all them 0's look VERY professional ;)

The adlinks block consistently has the best CTR of any channel, and that one block is earning me better than half of my income from AdSense.
My visitors, at least, don't seem to be bothered by the bold type....
You should at least try it out before rejecting it.
If there wheren't so many advertisers cpc would be a lot mower and there would be far more kw's with no bids and therefore more psa's.
Mack.

The 'ads by Gooooooooogle' looks ugly and unprofessional. There are similar services to Adsense which don't have this branding and we'll be switching more ad space to them.
This is certainly not new - nor are you. Has this reached a pinnacle with you then or why haven't you done this before now? Switched away from google I mean?
The question is whether it's really true. I mean, what could they be testing by that?
They're testing how surfers perceive ads as well as getting a little brand name recognition feedback. Why screw up the name? To test their various theories of course. How else do you know what works?
A google by any other name would smell as sweet....
i don't know about most of you people, but i don't run some crappy blog sites.. so to me, it doesn't look right with my content.. yes i have a choice not to use adsense, but i am also entitled to my opinion which you do not have to agree with.

If this is a test then it must be one of the longest test they have ever run :)
Let's not let our earnings get in the way of our opinions. This thing is tasteless and I have yet to find anyone whooooooo likes it. Will I cancel my Adsense account because of it? Of course I won't but I reserve the right to think that it looks cheap. This is particularly true on serious sites and I just cannot see the point of it. I wish they would let us opt out of it or get rid of it or whatever.

I don't know if this is a test or not... sorry for sounding so sure of myself. I can certainly see the value of doing testing like this though. Whether this is what is actually happening I couldn't say.
I doubt it's just some random idea someone had though. It's calculated to do something for them. You think?
but i am also entitled to my opinion which you do not have to agree with.
And they are, in turn, entitled to post their disagreements about your opinion.
It's a fun circle :)
I've seen it on high quality sites and low quality sites.
Even Google itself uses the multiple "o" at the bottom of its search result pages. They are definitely not "some crappy blog site".
I don't think the issue is as big as people make it out to be...but that's just my opinion.

Hilarious, I almost chooooooooked when I saw that. ;)
The "ads by gooooooooooooogle" show up on my site when a page has been indexed by the Mediapartners bot.
"ads by Google" shows up for new pages and for pages to which the Mediapartners bot doesn't have access, and I get targetted-to-my-site-but-not-to-this-specific-page ads.
I have seen brand new pages (1st impression) with oooooooooooooo, but those pages had descriptive URLS.

And either directly or indirectly it is probably about increasing advertising revenue although for the life of me I cannot understand how. All I can see is a practice that looks cheap and inappropriate on many sites. But then that may be why I have no money and Google could probably now buy a mid sized country.
(ASA it would be nice if someone could explain this to us. After all Adsense is a partnership is it not?)
This is not a whine, it is an opinion and I repeat, "all I can see is a practice that looks cheap and inappropriate on many sites". This is just as I see it and I think I am entitled to hold this opinion along with the many others who do so.
WRT your other point, it is ludicsous to suggest that all ads look cheap and inappropriate. If you think they do I would suggest that you need to have a closer looooook at this subject.
