Let's see if this month will be better than last month :)

Started with low RPM. Supposed to be Q4 :(

29% drop in RPM compared to last year.

A decent start compared to the first week of August '22, 11% Up.

Yesterday was an exceptional day with very high RPM and CPC, about 45% higher than the same day last week. I think that the weaker Euro has a positive impact on earnings

Mine still drop yesterday huge drop.

Labor day was "good" but not better than last year. 3Q woes continue more or less.

@robzilla i guess we need a discussion when something really off. Especially when u do nothing and yet sudden big drops.

It seems it's over. Going by the same trends, Adsense will not be able to recover even hosting charges. Down 80% compared to last year. Though traffic is higher.

Curious - does anyone have ads only on well-trafficked pages? ie: You only display ads on pages that get, for example, 500+ visits per month from search?

If so, how is that working out right now?

Significant increase in RPM( in the last couple of days, but still 15% lower than Sep 2021.

Thirty percent drop in CTR starting on September 7th. Seems at least one large advertiser has disappeared. Hoping for a bump with upcoming Christmas spending, but who knows. Been doing this for 20 years and thinking it might be time to retire :)

RPM

2022 Vs. 2021 so far:

January: 7.69% Up
February: 10.41% Up
March: 1.65% Up
April: 32.67% Up
May: 56.21% Up
June: 30.96% Up
July: 3.10% Up
August: 9% down
September: 37% down

September is usually the best month, but it has been the worst performer this year. On the other hand, May is generally the worst month, but this year it has been the best one.🫠

I was here back in 2008 and warned everybody about the economy being off. Sadly, I was right, as earnings plummeted for just about everybody.

I am thinking we could be looking at a similar situation. Ever since Brandon took over - not trying to be political, but, Geez, Louise - the economy has been souring. Hope I'm wrong, but my numbers are way off, especially yesterday and today.

Really dramatic 50% drop the last two days can be traced to the vignette ads which are now hardly displaying and when they do are getting very few clicks. Something is up. And yes, the economy was much better under T than B. Not very long ago there was no inflation and stock market was rising. Now...

Economy has nothing to do with T or B or O, inflation and stock market trajectory were set during T time. The excesses were built in his time. The issue is massive fiscal stimulus monetized by the Fed during the early pandemic days, and this years the Fed's actions to reign in the inflation caused by that same stimulus based on Treasury debt issued and purchased by the Fed with newly created monies.

Just saying, don't confuse your political views with reality @ember

It's the same here in the UK and Europe so politics has didly to do with it, with a few exceptions it's a worldwide issue. The war in Ukraine is a significant factor.

In many places inflation is rising, many markets are depressed, and growing fears of a recession don't help. As a result advertising agencies and their clients are cutting back on online advertising which in turn causes ad revenue to drop due to lower demand.

That's my take and I suspect it will last well into next year, maybe longer :(

adtech2, all I said was that the economy was better under T than it is under B. That's a fact, not a political statement. Just saying.

@ember - not really a fact, facts are the economy is better under B than T, but again neither has much of an impact. As you may or may not be aware, we exited a pandemic around the same time B took presidency and re-opened the economy with a huge boom year in 2021 during B's presidency. Unemployment is lower with B than T. Again, neither has any bearing on it, but don't confuse fiction with facts.

adtech2, let's put it this way. MY economy was better under T. My stock portfolio was rising (now it is dropping). If I wanted a mortgage, I paid about 3%, not the 6% it is now. I was paying $1.00 less per gallon for gas than I am now. My house value was increasing (now it is plateauing now thanks to the higher interest rates). I wasn't paying the 9% more for food, etc. that I am now. And the recession we are now in is affecting advertising spend on my websites. I will give you the lower unemployment under B, but it is so low now that companies can barely run because they can't find enough workers. Those are facts, not fiction.

Off topic from adsense lol. I haven't frequented this, I outsourced my ad setting to a third party who also manages my headerbidding stack. I got tired of life & I have dipped my toes to pivot to work for different companies & environments. So far toured B2C, start up B2B, some freelance, and now higher education. Loving what I have learned, people whom I have met, and things I have done so far. But anyways, probably my last post in the adsense section. Next decade, probably become a professor then politician, gotta do all different #*$! and stamp my life card.

@ember, T's push for reckless monetary policy during his terms were the pressure cooker. Remember his obsession bullying Powell to keep interest at nearly 0? B's reckless fiscal policy adds gas to the fire. But at least now in this environment Fed's actually can do its job.

With this said, I am glad T's gone. He might just push interest into the negative like what the EU did. It's fake prosperity. At the same time, B needs to stop sending helicopter money to everyone. Both president are doing #*$!ty idiotic things that push their own little pet agenda vs the greater long term prosperity.

The economy under the Donald was far better than what suffices for policy today. No matter what, ad revenues are taking a serious hit. Stock and housing markets will crash. Bankruptcies are already on the rise, along with CC defaults and foreclosures. The Fed cannot stop inflation with higher interest rates. That worked when we were more industrial, mercantile, but today's economy in the US is all consumer and government. Higher interest rates will just cause more pain.

Believe me, I've seen enough to know when things suck and I've been studying economics for 30 years. This year is bad. Next year is almost certain to be worse.

@fearlessrick - you don't seem to know much about economics if you think it has anything to do with a president. Just facts.
