Hello-

As for the new rules, I'll just keep the one which says that, if a page of a site is "accidentally" flagged as containing sexually content, at least the site and account will not be blocked / banned, and the only risk is that this page displays less ads. I mention this because, like a lot of you, I had , in the past "warnings" for hosting sexually explicit material (photos) , which were absolutely not related to sexuality, or not even nudity. So, this is one less "risk" , also, for those who are really providing adult oriented content, it might be a new way to monetize their pages, since they'll be able to display adsense ads now, and for advertisers, new opportunities, for those targeting this kind of niche.

Now, as for adsense today, the month starts badly, first time ever. It's still early in the day, and first of the month, first of the new quarter, but still. The coverage is killing me. 15% ! And with the fact it's no longer possible to use backup ads, it makes plenty of nearly empty spots all over my sites...

Ad serving is weird on my side. Getting ads in German and also a lot of blank spaces earnings are down by 40% compared to first part of October.

Since Wed the 23rd my impressions and clicks are down and RPM down 20% from last week. Active view is up. Not sure what is going on but its not good. I will leave it 1 week then contact them. Hoping it is a glitch on their part - but an expensive one for me. I do have autoads on but had some hard coded ads for some areas maybe these are effected I cannot believe they would do something to earn less income.

I turned Auto Ads OFF, and my AdSense has improved almost 100% since then.

@azlinda I use auto ads but only turn on Anchor Ads and Vignettes. That seems to work well for my larger websites.

I only earned $1.74 cents yesterday, and had 67 clicks, my cpc has been getting pretty low as well on average the cpc is low.

These are very low numbers. I think google favors YouTube over websites and blogs. I search online and several youtubers boast about making 80 to 90 thousand dollars a year off adsense they post 10 minute videos with 4 to 5 ad markers and mostly get pre roll video ads that are 15 seconds long and you cannot skip

so everyone is watching no matter what that is instant money.

its also VERY hard to rank in google now, these ranking issues occurred after 2016-17 thats when a lot of people were being pushed out and lost traffic and money. Sad times.

@Broaster

The blogs and youtube personalties that make big money are the exception and not the norm.

Plus, now that I've been in this internet content sphere for several years, I no longer envy those high earners or see a reality in this being a solid long term plan. The traffic and money flow can be turned off in a hurry and we can't do anything about it but weep on this forum.

I just visited the forum to check what's everyone opinion on the new Auto Ads and I don't see any discussion?

I've got almost full page on my Adsense account with

"Get ready for exciting changes to Auto ads

New Auto ads now works through any ad code........... continue"

With an actual countdown how many days I have to review my settings. Nobody else? (it's been like this for close to a week)

I received that notice and turned off all auto ads except vignette ads on one site. Auto ads just do not perform well since they show up on top of photos, etc. and only appear about 50% of the time. When Google makes them mandatory, that will be the end of Adsense, at least for me.

@ wader, I use CF too, but the problems started way before that. Not sure why CF would be the problem...but I'm intrigued by any theories or correlation.

Ember

I do also have a feeling google is going to make auto ads mandatory. Auto ads do have a high CTR, its very odd since they put a lot of them on mobile. you would think more people would be clicking them but nope. Unless google is just not paying you and giving the advertiser free visits.

Very low eCPM this last week.
No Halloween promo, nothing, it's like a bad promise of things to come (Black Friday, Christmas).

I got the same message.

Glad I checked it as everything was turned on by default. Wonder if it would have stayed turned on once the deadline passed? If so, then that would have been bad. Suggest you review it and not ignore it.

Anyway turned it off just don't work well on my sites.

I began using Adsense in 2006, late to the game but not too late. Here's a quick summary of my story.

From when I started up until around 2014 Adsense was a reliable third income and I could rely on a payment every month, at best around three times the minimum payment. Not life changing income, but useful, and I got paid for doing something I enjoyed. I even had my own Google Adsense representative who would send me personal e-mails. Suddenly, around the end of 2014 it turned into a joke and I removed it. After 2014 I tried it again a few times, but results were always so pathetic that I removed it soon afterwards. Earlier this year I decided to remove it for the final time. However, a few weeks ago I noticed that I was about 5 UKP away from a payment so thought I would put Adsense back on one more time temporarily just to get a final payment.

I've always found link ads to have the best CTR so added one responsive link ad to each page. The results were not good. I consistently got clicks, but no payment. On one occasion when checking I saw 13 clicks for zero money. When I did actually get paid for a click it was a penny or two. I did a search for the most popular Adsense ad unit and saw it was the 300x250 medium rectangle. This size was also suitable for mobile so I replaced my link ads with this one. The result: no clicks at all for several days. People have developed ad blindness and this particular ad size seems to be the most difficult of all to see.

While checking Adsense I saw a message from Google saying they had made improvements to responsive ad units and thought it was worth a shot so made another change. The improvement was startling. Unlike the 300x250 ads I started to get clicks with the responsive units (although CTR still wasn't as good as link ads) and - best of all - unlike link ads that were paying zero per click the CPC with the responsive units was excellent. I started seeing 50p + clicks, which I hadn't seen for years.

Finally, I had cracked the Adsense secret, or so I thought. Hallelujah. Perhaps now I would keep the ads on permanently. But then, after a couple of days of stellar performance the CPC dropped to a penny or two and I started seeing RPMs of 20 pence. Pathetic, once again. I exceeded the minimum payment amount in October, which was my objective, but once more I will be removing the ads. Based on my experience I just can't see any justification in replacing them again. Even when Adsense does perform well for a day or two there is no consistency.

At the current rate I won't even get two payments a year and removing the ads - thus making my site look less tacky - may actually help my affiliate sales. Obviously, Adsense is still a cash cow for Google and if you can manage to create a huge YouTube channel it seems to work, but as a way of monetising small to medium size websites it died a long time ago. Unless you've been in the Adsense program for a long time you won't realise how bad it is now compared to how good it was in the past.

That's just my experience but, obviously, YMMV. Admittedly, the problem isn't solely with Adsense, but a combination of things. When I started making websites in the late 90's there was very little competition and search was very primitive. Since then the on-line world has changed beyond recognition and whereas years ago small sites could have a voice, the Internet is now dominated by big players. The ride was fun at times and, looking back, I could have done a lot better than I did when times were good but I missed opportunities. Every money making opportunity on-line now is completely saturated. It's time to try something else.

Yep. Auto ads coverage was about half of regular ad coverage. I turned them off, except for the vignette ads, which work really well.
