March was a good month, but April is here.
New quarter, nice weather and a lot of religious holidays (on all major religions), so the traffic and payment will swing like crazy.

Had a single click worth 4.89 this morning, I'm hoping that it won't disappear :-)

I also got some emails inviting me to join Kontextua. Joining was quite easy and didn't take very long. Basically, the ads look exactly the same as AdSense. The only difference is as they send you all the code via email. I've only put a couple of ads and some fairly minor articles so far and I've probably made a couple of dollars in about a month. Not really sure whether it's worth doing, I haven't been brave enough to replace some of my AdSense with these to give them a proper test.

@andymorris
How many clicks did you have before adjusting the Ad-Balancer? And, how clicks did you get within those few minutes?

Nick, i didnt really look, but i've had low clicks overall (0,2%) when i changed the ad balance, i'm usually at 1.05%.

The past few days the click rate has been very very low, it's up to .46 now but ive never seen such bad CTR.

Visits are stable but no one is clicking anymore since early april.

@andymorris, I was asking in terms of actual clicks not in terms of CTR.

Using AdX now instead of Adsense. 4/1 and 4/2 were normal and fine, then 4/3 dropped like a rock. By 4/4, I was down 36% below my March average, and that's where it has stayed so far.

My ad manager says that it's probably a combination of 2nd quarter and the Adsense boycott related to Youtube.

Yeah Nick, i know, but i didnt really look at those numbers, is there a way to know in adsense ? I'll have to check

@csdude55 is adX hard to set up ? Gotta say i created an account but it's another way of dealing with ads. Is it worth taking time to set it up overall ?

Something strange has happened. When I looked at my account this morning, in particular the finalised balance for the previous month, my balance has increased by 4 since yesterday.

Weird indeed, mine has not changed, sadly :D

What's weird is that no one is clicking the ads today. Other ad providers stable (Taboola and stuff), even on the rise...

Time to ditch adsense me think.

Your not alone out of the 8 years I have been doing this the month of April has been the worst for CPC & CTR ever for me. CPC is down nearly 100% & CTR is down 50% Anyone having success with FAN (Facebook Audience Network)? Thinking about testing

@andymorris
but i didnt really look at those numbers, is there a way to know in adsense ? I'll have to check

It is impossible to determine the actual number of clicks over a short time span after the fact, but over the space of a few minutes you can easily see the change in the number reported.

If you are getting hundreds of clicks per hour, then seeing a change in CPC over the course of a few minutes may be attributable to some action (eg: changing your ad balance setting). But if one only gets a few clicks an hour, then the a time span of a few minutes is measuring the impact of a single or maybe two clicks. In the later situation, it would be difficult to attribute the change in CPC to anything more than mere coincidence.

From my experience, as well the experience of other here it takes a few weeks to really see the impact of the ad-balancer. That said it is not for every situation, specially since it works on the account level, if you have multiple sites serving different regions it may not work for you. I strongly recommend that you read the ad-balancer thread as there is a lot of good information.

Another indicator of whether the feature will work for you is the revenue profile. If you have a nearly horizontal curve then your ad-balancer will likely show that you can get 100% revenue for a low percentage of ad impressions. What this means is that very few of the ads showing on you site are paying you very much, this may signal a need to publish content that is better targeted to high paying advertisers.

I actually signed up with a larger network (MonetizeMore) that uses it. Even after their fee, I'm making more money because they can reach a larger audience than I can alone.

So I turned on ad balancer, it's too early to say what impact it's had. But as a slight aside, how do I backfill the 30% of useless impressions with something like Amazon ads? Do I have to use DFP for that? I hate DFP, so hard to use.

@Swanny the topic of back-up ads is discussed at length in the ad-balancer thread. here is the link:
[webmasterworld.com...]
It also includes discussion of different options Amazon, and others as well as a link to a thread that discusses the alternatives specifically.

To answer your question precisely, here is the Google support page that explains how to setup back-up ads.

Can you login to AS? I get an error message: We apologize for the inconvenience, but we are unable to process your request at this time. Our engineers have been notified of this problem and will work to resolve it.

As more and more people complain about this issue probably is something that is on Google side.

Here is how you can access your account verified and working: try this solution as provided by an user on googleproducts forum:

Step 1. Login to your google products account at
https://accounts.google.com/

Step 2. Copy the below URL adres and put it your search bar but replace the "?" with your own publisher id
https://www.google.com/adsense/new/u/0/pub-?/main/viewreports?rt=d&uim=d

You will be able to access your account and view your stats yet, the homepage might still not work.
Also others says that using the Android App to login to Adsense also do the job.

My Adsense account is working as usual and I didn't face any login problem, as well as the real time stats working well. but RPM still down, and it's almost the middle of April, so it seems the situation will not get better until the end of this month.

Up and down, up and down. Our AdSense statistics do look zig-zaggier from day to day than they used to.

Also, it's starting to look like my aggressive use of the Ad Balance slicer (12% coverage, supposedly 100% of revenue) may be cutting into our average monthly AdSense revenues. I'm sticking with the 12% coverage, though, because our house ads for the other 88% of impressions are almost certainly worth more than any lost AdSense earnings.

Easter Sunday turns out to be the lowest earning day in years. Record low RPM and CTR. Weird thing is that my US stats are quite alright (CTR and RPM). Its the rest of the world that is completely off. My UK stats are on par with Pakistan and Canada behaves like India. Very extreem numbers.

Has anyone else noticed that Adsense is using a lot less text ads this month and a lot more rich media and image or is it just me?

Did a bit more checking than just looking at the bottom line today. I noticed that a little hobby site that I created a few years ago and had pretty well forgotten about is pulling in an RPM about sixteen times higher than my main site this month. Sadly the visitor count this month is only in 2 figures so not statistically significant although last month the RPM was 400% that of the main site. It will never be an earner in cash terms but I might devote an hour to a little promotion to see if it can generate some beer money.

Funny you should mention your little hobby site. I run a website for a guy who makes bespoke exhausts for motorbikes. In return for me not charging him for any alterations and basically for me to maintain the website throughout the year I have some AdSense units on the site. Like you, the website doesn't get that many hits during the day, probably 120 maximum I've seen since I built the website nearly a year ago. However, the click through rate is so much higher than my other websites and it shows in what the website makes from just a few clicks. Also, because it's not my website I didn't really want to go too crazy with AdSense advertising. So all I've got on the main pages is one link unit and a responsive unit at the bottom of the page.

If I could get 1000 hits a day from it would be really well. But then I suppose it would be only fair to negotiate with the owner of the website if the money the website was earning far exceeded what I would charge for alterations :-)
