I might as well kick this month's thread of then.

Not a brilliant start to October, but it could be worse. Like I've said before, you just don't know where you stand these days with AdSense.

I don't even think there's any point in me making changes to my layout, I had a good September with my present layout.

Seeing decent RPMs as well. But not as high as the previous few months.

Today is almost a nonstarter, not sure what's going on. I hope that things improve soon.

Getting pretty good RPM today. One thing i noticed is that the RPM always gets down or slow down around 10 am (Pacific US Time). Wonder if it has to do with the traffic being higher at those times and more inventory = #*$!tier ads.

My CPC has been Lower throughout the month of October, I've heard this is because of Election Season and is seasonal. Has anyone else heard this?

That's an interesting theory with the election being the cause. I didn't make nearly as much money in 2012 so I can't confirm it. Anyone else?

I don't know about this election theory, I'm kind of thinking that it is the other way around. I've been seeing a lot of election ads on my site, local, state and federal. I have also seen my earnings rise sharply in September. I am down a bit down so far in October but still doing better than August and July. Maybe we will see in November, but then we have Black Friday and Christmas, so as usual it will be impossible to know for sure. Also I wasn't operating in 2012 so I have nothing to compare it to.

Side note, "Politics" is the only sensitive category I have not blocked on my site.

They're (pundits, the media, etc.) blaming the drop in NFL ratings on the election, too, so maybe. I doubt it, though, on both accounts.

Come to think of it, the a drop in due to the election would not necessarily be felt by a drop in CPC or CTR, it would be most likely felt by drop traffic. I have seen a slight drop in traffic in early October with a certain degree of recovery in the past few days (nothing that is statistically significant). I equate this more to the ongoing Penguin turmoil, more then anything else.

We have seen a 25% drop in traffic for two hours at the 2 presidential debates, but that is about it!

Seeing drops in CTR with very little US traffic. Even thanksgiving has only just about registered on my income in previous years.

I have noticed A LOT of political ads on my sites though and I've also noticed that on the bad days, it's the USA where the money is missing. Maybe there's a ton of political ad inventory and they don't pay very well per click?

Of course, they might not be PPC ads. (They could be CPM ads.) More to the point, since AdSense is a bid-based system, lousy-paying ads (whether political or non-political) aren't going to be served when better-paying ads are available. It would seem to me that a bigger pool of "remnant ads" would tend to boost RPM by increasing competition among bidders at the bottom of the food chain.

Adsense changed "what you earned the last 28 days compared to previous month" to "what you earned this month compared to last year", lol

Best day ever on 17th. However, for last 1 hr my stats are stuck. It is showing 0 pageviews for 18th Oct - it's almost 1 hr now into 18th.

Abysmal month so far with both earnings and clicks down 16% but what is even more disconcerting is that USA EPC is up just under 2% whereas Sterling has depreciated against the Dollar by 20%.

Is anyone else seeing similar?

So what do people consider a good impression RPM and CTR?

Interestingly my RPM for Media.Net is also down this month, but this may be because they have Google Ads as backfill.

@RedBar My US CPC is DOWN in sterling terms by 33% OCT vs SEP which is quite odd given the depreciation of the pounds vs the dollar and that Christmas ad campaigns would be building up this month.

I think it's another tactic how to keep monies for themselves. AUD to US went from about 1.2 to 0.7 and my overall AUD CPC went actually DOWN even when the currency exchange rate indicated it would do otherwise - 90+% of my income is from the US

Having looked at RPM by region I'm seeing the biggest drop for the UK, US RPM is fairly steady despite the CPC drop - so CPM ads must be making up for that.

How do you all like the new adsense look? I personally like it - more stats within the dashboard.

IanTurner

On the Adsense new look - it looks good BUT you can't flick through your set of reports easily without having to scroll the menu and the blue bar at the top doesn't scroll away so that it reduces the report content you can see on the screen (important for laptop/tablet) - as I never really look at the dashboard it is pretty irrelevant to have changes there as far as I'm concerned. All in all probably and overall no great effect from the revamp.

On the revenue drops, are those who are affected mainly UK based (or have a significant proportion of UK traffic)?

All the CPR does is show you what's going on on a particular day. I don't see how it can predict earnings for the next day, or weeks ahead. The choose one I look at at the end of each day is how much money I have made. Like a lot of people my earnings don't tend to fluctuate that much, saying goes with the clicks I receive. But I never like to try and predict how much money I will earn.

I've noticed a lower CPC all month, but it got much lower around the 13th or 14th. I wonder why so many people are seeing significant drops in CPC throughout this month?
