June 2016 AdSense Earnings and Observations

May wasn't too bad, up YOY on both page views and earnings. Let's see what June holds!

So far today I have five clicks and 80p, absolutely crazy. Let's hope things improve later on in the day.

Here is a break down of my month of May:
Overall traffic increased by 19% (from GA)
Page views increase by about 22%
clicks increased 7%
Revenue increased in-line with traffic growth 19%

The mix of visitors by device stay unchanged 38% desktop 62% other.
and revenue by device was also unchanged.

Conclusion:
Adsense is essentially flat month over month, but my ongoing growth in traffic is finally leading to some better earnings.

PS: - Page Level Ads.
I implemented page level ads early in May. They appear only on a select few pages that get regular traffic but are rarely landing pages. Vignettes only.
My ratio of PLA impressions / Total unique page views by mobile devices on PLA pages is 22%, In other words only 22% of users saw a vignette when they landed on a page (with PLAs) with their mobile device. CTR for the month 0.6%.

How did the PLAs perform for others in May?

Today so adsense looking so terrible I can't even explain, its getting worse and worse by every day for me. I am just looking for an ad network that will be able to fill 100% thn i will be able to ditch adsense.

RPM of May is same as April. With June being the end of quarter, hopefully to see a slight uptick as advertisers blast their last wave before Summer kicks into full gear. I am expecting a 10%~20%+ RPM for june, fingers crossed!

Ps. May's RPM was still roughly 20~30% lower than last year.

Lost 17% in revenue compared to last year while traffic increased 10% in May. Still pretty good month for me, as May 2015 was my best month ever. More worrisome is the 4% clawback at the end of the month, I've never had more than 1% corrected.

The last few days of May produced a much healthier RPM and today is even better. Let's hope it stays in town for a while. My clawback for May was about 2.5%, which is about average.

So there you have it... 12 months of work, loads new content and traffic, and I am no better off.

Seeing less income (not much), but that usually happens after a major US holiday. Hoping 4th of July will push up revenues last week in June :)

Looks like I'm not the only person suffering from déjà vu. June has started off pretty badly, can't really get much worse or I won't be making any money at all. It's really disheartening because I've put so much hard work into getting my website looking really appealing and getting the ads looking good, feel like I might as well just left everything as it was and not bothered.

As for the Nessie arrows, I'm finding the colours change occasionally, I get dark grey quite a lot, just wish they were a nice blue though.

I had a bigger clawback than usual as well. Probably extra botnet activity in May through the whole system.

Clawback 0.2%, mind you there was not a lot earned!

I'm seeing strangely low Google PVs for a couple of sites, either they are having a data loss problem or they are simply ignoring PVs from certain countries. The PVs are genuine since they have driven realworld business enquiries.

3% clawback for me...pretty typical. On a higher note - despite a crappy ending to the month, last month was my first of $xxxx earnings. Hopefully there's many more to come! :)

Pretty decent end of May, HORRIBLE start for June. I´m getting decent traffic and normal CTR, but CPC has nose-dived.

Clawback was 1.4%, a bit higher than normal but nothing extraordinary at all.

Adsense earnings up 29% on last month. Affiliate earnings are difficult to calculate effectively but they are up well above that %ge.

Key to me, as I see my future long term survival, are page views. They are up 12% for my key site over April. I had hoped for more but it's not a disaster.

As I see it, independent webmasters are a fast disappearing entity, only those who have a high number of page views will be in a situation to bargain with advertisers. Sad to say, the accountants are increasingly gaining control and the only thing that impresses them is raw numbers. Quality doesn't count.

@nomis5 that is pretty good, you seemed to have increased your RPM by about 15%, I have been struggling to keep my RPM steady, last month is the first month in a while where it only fell marginally. Increasing in page views are my only saving grace.

nomis5 --- "You hit the nail on the head"! It seems that the only way out of this, as far as gaining a steady increase in overall revenue, is ......Lots of views ....

As I mentioned during an earlier thread, those views would have to be growing at quite a decent number so they can compensate for the continual drop in RPM (lower click values \ CTR / etc) ...

So, what we may have estimated(Future projection) we could earn with "X" amount of views.....would now require "XX" or "XXX" views...


Another thing.....I have seen a number of publishers talking about low RPM 'S that are so low, it knocked the wind out of me......I mean they were almost down to zilch! Nada! Nothing! As in a few cents per 1000 views...all up!

When I read of those kind of results.....I have to sit back and realize that my own current " Adsense RPM Dilemma" was no where near as bad.......and just to be thankful that we can still pull in a decent amount of earnings..even under the current circumstances....

I was reading a thread from a few years back (ancient history in web years) and people were saying that as a rule of thumb one could expect to earn about $0.01 per unique user per day. I am at about half that. Is that still valid today?

What? $0.01 per unique visitor? We would all be complaining MUCH less if that was the case ;)

The average RPM today is probably more like $0.002 to $0.005 per visitor. Some may even have it worse than that.

Second day of June and earnings are worse than ever. I really thought things are starting to move in the right direction. Anyone got any advice on which ads are doing particularly well on mobile and desktop, I think if things don't improve in the next week I'm going to have a little change around and see if we can improve things.

@Ironside I have some advice, stop messing with your site. Leave it as is for the Month of June, spend the month researching what 1 change would be best to implement. Then at the end of the month make that one change and wait for a another month to see the impact. Repeat.

Also another question to ask is what metric do you hope to improve, (other than earnings)? I am of the opinion that the only metric that you can really have a direct impact on is page views. If I were you I would focus on creating new quality content.

Good advice from @NickMNS. It's best to look at your metrics over the longer term, at least one or two months. Then examine the performance of one particular ad unit and see if it can be improved. Tinkering with ad units, placement, etc. on the back of a few poor days is unlikely to tell you much.
