Viewability - only 11%. Losing revenues?

Hello guys,

I noticed a big issue with one of my wordpress websites. It has approximately 3 000 visits/day, mostly from U.S. The problem is that according to Adsense dashboard, the viewability rate is very low. There two ad positions on this website. One after first paragraph inside each article (11.66% viewability) and one in the top-right sidebar (10% viewability). The question is why are these numbers so low?

I feel that due to this I am losing a lot of revenue. My other websites (paradoxically not so important ones) get between 50-70% viewability.

Thank you for any help guys.

Fake traffic maybe? [bloomberg.com...]

Review the habits of your individual traffic sources.

Also check your layout as regards RWD. Different viewports might send your ads in different places.

Thanks tangor that makes a lot of sense.

Just gave the likely answer to my own nemesis, that I never thought of.

@fathom, do report back in a week or three on results of RWD mods in this regard. Most times this (viewport) is the "visibility" problem. It gets worse when mobile and tablet get inserted.

Not wanting to hijack this thread from the OP so will suggest for him to do the same. Please report back, if and when, you unlock the secret.

I'm following this thread NOW (myself) and will repost next week.

Hello guys,

the traffic is definitely legit. But the viewport problem sounds interesting. How can I test it though? Is there a tool for that?

Thank you

You don't need a tool. View your site on your phone and see where the ads fall. If they're more than a couple screen scrolls, it's probably your problem.

I am convinced it's my problem (85% of my traffic is mobile) and I'm rethinking my RWD layout accordingly.

Yes :)..
"Tool(s)" ..Firefox ( either "out of the box" ) or with an "add on"

So..install firefox..go to "tools" click "web developer" , then click "responsive design view"..
Unfortunately it does lack a view of 480x800..which is one of the most common used on non apple phones..
To get this 480x800 view, and other useful tools ..install in firefox the web developer toolbar by chris pederick [chrispederick.com...]
This is a lot cheaper than buying the various phones and tablets that might be used to view your site, and is reasonably accurate..I also have the actual phones and tablets to check with..

Thank you guys very much. I think mobile is not a problem though. Since 75% of my traffic comes from a desktop according to Google Analytics
