Will those of us who have seen recent big falls in earnings recover this month or not?

I'm having an unusually good day which doesn't make sense since all the events were Saturday and Sunday. Beats me.

Huge, giant matched content notice in my account. Apparently, I am now eligible for this. Has anyone tried it? Does it do much? If it increases pageviews, then I don't see much point. Whenever those go up, CTR goes down.

Users say that preroll ads on YouTube are now playing in full and that even the Skip Now option, allowing them to dispense with the ads after only a few seconds, has been disabled.

As I've been saying since day one, one of the natural outcomes of adblocking will be for ads to become even more aggressively integrated into content. A tech friend of mine reckons Google/Youtube will probably start dropping full ads into uploaded videos during rendering, possibly while offering ad-free versions to its paid subscribers. Good luck blocking those.

Sorry, that last post should have been in the IAB adblocking thread. Mods please delete.

When I log in today I get the infamous "Your earnings on September 8 were 65% below our forecast" notice.

No sh@t your CPC was 65% below my forecast. :)

August was a good month, highest this year. September has got off to a fairly good start. Sunday was absolutely awesome, can't quite understand why today is write-down on clicks and revenue.

Start September was good, but last 3 days its horrible. Sunday is very good. I hope so next week will better.

All over the place. No obvious reason why as i've made virtually no changes to anything.

Earnings this month so far (10th sept) up 30% on last month
Earnings last month vs month before down 18%

CTR this month up 12%
CTR last month down 21%

CPC this month up 31%
Last month up 2%

Note to self: If i had made some changes and saw these improvements I'd think that it was my changes that had caused them

I see no real reason why today CPM is very low!
August was a horrific month, September has nothing new for now.

I'm waiting for advertisers to start their campaigns.

A see a lot of crappy ads, only crappy ads!

@Mentat just because you are seeing bad ads on your website, that doesn't necessarily mean everybody else will. You may find that your website displays relative ads to my website history which could mean I would click on them. Have you actually made your custom channels available to advertisers so that they can display their ads on your site? I have made some of my custom channels available so advertisers can bid for them, but I don't know if there is any way of finding out if anyone is doing this.

I have a lot of custom channels.
I have 22% of my revenue from Placement targeting.

I browse daily to my "Ad Review Center".
Filter by 1 day and you will see the ads from the last day, ordered by # of views.

YESTERDAY at 10.30 am, I checked my earnings and it was $5.something. After almost 7 hours, I checked again and it was still $5.something. And after the day, the earning difference was only $2. Lowest RPM & CPC ever :(

Two observations from the last few days:

1. CTR falling but CPC rising, in other words fewer clicks but more big earning clicks. RPM still ends up about the same.

2. Reporting has been very sporadic. Pageviews are updated regularly but clicks/earnings come in fits and spurts.

I am on track for another £300 month if earnings continue as they are. To be honest, all this CTR business really doesn't make a lot of sense to me. One day it could be £1.50, another day it could be £2.80. Obviously when it's higher I make more money. But at the end of the day, I just look at the £££signs. From my understanding I simply don't understand how you can gain anything from click through rate. You don't know who is visiting your website, and you have no idea who is clicking on your ads. Also, I would bet you any money that if you are seeing a certain ad in the UK, it will be completely different in the USA. My website as a.com but I am in the UK. It is simply impossible for me to gain any information by looking at my AdSense units. From what information I have managed to obtain, from people who have been kind enough to make a note of what units they are seeing, people in the US are seeing more relevant AdSense units then I am seeing here in the UK. I think this is probably due to the fact that there are more companies in the US dealing with tropical fish related sales. If I wasn't getting clicks from the US then I would be making hardly anything. So sometimes I think it's worth having a.com domain, especially if your niche will appeal to anyone anywhere in the world.

Is there any way of displaying an image on this forum? I wanted to ask somebody a question, however I can only really get my point across if I show a screenshot

Lets say in my example if i have 2 million impressions/daily and if my CTR get down i am losing money each day because i am getting less clicks with lower CTR.

You can just upload it somewhere and post a link here, Ironside.
Don't post screengrabs of your Adsense panel though, at least not without blurring your specific figures. The big G will come down and whup your butt.

Bear in mind that if you post it on an image hoster that requires a visitor to "authorise" a gazillion 3rd party scripts..many of us are not going to do so..and so will not see it..

@Sponge Bob sometimes a CTR is very low compared to the previous day, however the clicks may be exactly the same. What I'm saying is it doesn't actually tell you why it's happening. There isn't really any information that you can get from your account that will tell you why clicks have dropped so dramatically. If there was, then we would all be able to fix the situation. Sometimes my CTR can change dramatically from day to day, however I'm getting around the same daily visits and clicks are basically the same. I haven't changed any of my AdSense, I have absolutely no idea why one day I can and £17 and the next day it's half of that.

Bye bye AdSense ... On my sites, I have watched you in your death throes, you have occasionally flickered and promised to come back into life however it is obvious that you will not after Friday recording my lowest-ever clicks, my lowest-ever CTR, my lowest-ever earnings, my third lowest-ever RPM.

I've just launched a new unique widget site this week without any advertising on it whatsoever, I am reconstructing my oldest site from '93/4 also without any advertising on it as well, that's unfortunate for my trade advertisers however it has all been your own undoing Google ... the past 2-3 years you have failed epically insofar as I am concerned ... you've been acting like a petulant child "knowing" all meanwhile, in reality, having no common sense whatsoever and totally oblivious to the carnage you have created whilst lining your own pockets.

Congratulations ...

Hi, like the majority of you it has been an awful months with adsense, low CPC and RPM, but I just noticed in the repport that they added a Products category where it shows: Adsense for content pages and adsense for content pages ( hosted), in the first one they only show me like half the page views, clicks, an average CPC and the earning of the day, and in the second one they show the remaining clicks and page views but with a an awfully low Cpc ( 0.01$) and 0.00$ earnings, so basically they don't give all the clicks and earnings! and the other thing is my sister has also an adsense account, a new one like 3 months ago she doesn't have these repport on her account and the earnings and generally good! Anyone knows what's all this about?

I seriously think that we need to compare some notes to see just exactly what is happening. For instance, are your earnings for the last couple of months dropping? On the other hand, have you reached an absolute low in the last six months but seen a gradual incline in your earnings? This is what has happened to me, I was actually earning less than £200.06 months ago, however the last four or five months have seen my earnings improving. It's too early to say whether September's earnings will beat August.

Also, have you changed any of your AdSense layout in the last few months? Have you gone over to responsive?

Since I've done away with a lot of my responsive ad units and moved over to 300 x 250 units, my earnings have started to increase each month.

I'm probably repeating what I've said quite a few times before but I can't see us about going back to the good old times where earnings were skyhigh. I think there are too many people trying to make money from AdSense. I also think the use of mobile devices to use the Internet has had a massive effect on how much money we are earning. It could come to the point where AdSense will no longer work, especially if somebody develops an app that is automatically loaded onto mobile phones that block advertising.

@ironside I could be out of date but I thought it was against Google's TOS to discuss/publish earnings? - Although I do find your posts useful! :) But not worth getting banned for...

Like you I'm also in the UK. I take it you are aware of the new Cookie Consent stuff that needs to be in place by the end of this month? Discussion here: [webmasterworld.com...]

What are your views as I don't see any 'cookie banner' on your site?

@Badger less than £200 could be between zero and £200, I don't think I am publishing what I earned :-)

I'm not sure which website you are referring to, I've always had the privacy policy on my website, if that is what you are referring to
