Right now I'm leaning toward disabling this on my AdSense account. I don't like G+ as it is, this is taking things real close to the creepy line again.

Good thing is, its only for display ads (image/flash). I've image only ad blocks on side menu, so it wouldn't effect main text-only blocks...

This is idiotic, they are making it possible to +1 an ADVERT! Don't they have any idea, they just don't think what people will do to game the system.

In order to know whether to +1 an ad, surely a user needs to click on the ad, visit the target site (and see that the advert leads to a good deal) THEN they need to go back to the previous site to see if that same advert shows up again! That's going to mess up stats for a start...

Alternatively, you'll get people +1'ing ads before they see if the site has what is suggested - hence you will get companies gaming the system; a kind of bait and switch. Make adverts seem to offer amazing stuff (with small T&C's), then let the T&C's deal with why most people don't get the deal (which is likely to be front loading the people who do get a good deal and then riding the high +1 score until the ad runs its course).

How will this change CTR for most ads? I'm guessing it'll be massively negative AND it'll make ads look really rubbish. All ads will start with a +1 score of 0... Doesn't inspire confidence (and users will wonder why the +1 has come up...). Als, they think your friends will like an advert because you +1 it! Have they learned nothing about social yet?

On top of this they are testing this all out using our advertising space and not paying for it...

"liking" Ads does work, you can see that on facebook.
But until Google+ is an open network that is used as much as facebook I am not very interested in +1 on Ads

Isn't this a surfire way to get google blocked in corporate networks? If you filter on social networking sites at work that could mean big blocks for google domains.

My buddy asked me within 24 hours of Google+ going live what he should do. I told him it looks like another destined to be deleted product from Google.

To me this just confirms that Google+ is just another failed attempt by Google to clone someone elses product.

Thank god they invented adwords or they would be.. Oh wait! They stole that to.

I assume that the presumption is that if I go to a site and see that one of my friends +1'd an ad, I'd be tempted to click on it to see why. Which of course that site would be paid for, so it would encourage CTR.

It does work for FB likes, which is why I have big ugly FB boxes with faces on my sites, even though I dislike them myself.

I have no reason to think it would work with ads, but hey, I'll try anything once.

These you can't block ..the wording from Google in the control panel is deliberately ambiguous ..search for some of my old posts here on the subject of "interest based ads"..confirmed to me here by the last but one adsense advisor in the thread.."you can't opt out of showing IBAs".

This is too funny. What we really need is -1 for ads.
Any ad that gets too high a rate of -1's gets removed.

Is it really constructive to talk about "the creepy line" in every Google thread? It start to get tiresome... Sure, Google loves our data but i can still choose to use Googles services... (unlike the monitoring our governments does, Google reads our gmails, the govs read all mails, for comparison)

The cheek of it - Google needs to pay US for clicks NOT expect them for free. Disabled within 10 minutes of the email. When will they learn!

I would be surprised if google don't announce (or just activate) some incentive to keep the +1 on ads, probably in the form of reduced payouts on those that remove it.

As it's not yet live - I'm going to wait and see what happens - and test as much as I can when it is.

It's interesting watching google try to force a social network success in an already dominated market. An idea for facebook - include an FB search on every 'like' button.

While these two billion dollar gorillas wrestle - we just have to avoid being trampled.
