I've been getting it for several months now. Some publishers even longer.

It's legit. The email I mean.

Why they feel the need to inform me that a payment is coming that I already know is coming is kind of wierd, but hey, it's their dime.

It's a stupid idea for the reasons you mentioned, and also, spammers will catch on and then you will be receiving fake ones.

Last year they were telling us days after the money was in the account (and spent ;) ) Stupid then too.

I got it. First time they have sent that to me. Does it mean that there is some sort of delay for money to hit the account this month? Usually it's MIB by now. :D

I got a similar mail today for first time, though the subject reads "You've been issued a payment from Google AdSense". Its authentic for sure as it lands up at Google Adsense login page.

sailorjwd, I am surprised you even mentioned about doubeclick. If you have a website that has adsense on it, then it should mention said company...

Everyone had to update their privacy policy to reflect that.

As Lame_Wolf confirmed, these emails are legitimate and just meant to inform you that you've been issued a payment. I can see how this email may not be helpful for most of you who are active and very aware of your AdSense activity. Can't hurt to get a "You've got money" email though, right? :)

Well, yes.

For starters, I received it yesterday, but still says PIP in Payment History.

Even when it changes to Payment Issued, it will still take days before the thieving banks let go of them.

Then you've got the scammers and spammers, who will eventually catch on and start sending out fake ones in the hope of catching out the clueless (and there are many of them).

And to top it off, there is the carbon footprint involved... and messages like this in the forums.

Is it all worth it ? I think not.

It should automatically be set to opt out, and if people want to opt in, then let them.

Doubleclick or doubeclick? I'm seeing some obvious misspellings for doubeclick on a quick search. If you're getting emails from doubeclick I'd delete them. I don't think I'd even open them.

Doubleclick is well known though. Lame_Wolf's cite will give you much more information. In spite of what many think, Wikipedia's contributors get it right more often than not.

I've seen no evidence of that. It just means you're getting paid. There's a presumption of that already though. Why they feel the need to reassure us.. well, like I said it's kind of wierd.

Google's getting wierd though. I'm bailing on them. And not just in the adsense model. I'm bailing on them period. I'm advising clients to do them same as well... friends... heck, if I see you in a bar over a beer I'll advise you to do the same thing if you'll listen long enough.

Listen, there was no bigger google cheerleader than me when when they first started getting big and it had little to do with adsense. That "don't be evil" thing went over big with me.

That might have been policy at one time but it's not anymore. It's about making a buck. It's about satisfying shareholders. They've gotten so big and expanded into so many other markets that they don't even know who they are anymore. It's not about "don't be evil"

I won't argue about this. You won't change my mind anyway. If you're a borg cheerleader still... that's fine. Root for your team. It's perfectly acceptable.

I quite like receiving the e-mails too. I check my account multiple times daily so it's not as though I need the e-mail, but overall I think it's a useful thing for the majority of AdSense users.

Plus for me I usually receive the e-mail a day or two before MIB so there's no problems there from my POV.

Really? You like to be told that a company is going to pay you money they owe you? This when they've already been doing it for years? I don't need that reassurance.

I've never not been paid by google and it's been an ongoing relationship for years. They've banned publishers and withheld payment in some cases. They'll tell you about it first though.

but overall I think it's a useful thing for the majority of AdSense users.

And I think it's a waste of friggin' resources.

The only time I freak out is when the money doesn't come at all. That's never happened with google, and I don't expect it will next month either.

I don't need an email from them telling me my payment is on the way. It's just more crap polluting my inbox that I have to delete.

I wouldn't mind an email explaining why they've screwed up their business model though. They rocked at first. What happened?

Two things:
1) I had already received the money two days before
2) The link was not taking me to Google or Adsense from what I could tell by reading the URL of the link. Therefore I would never click it.

The email is a total waste of google's time and my time.

It was taking you to Doubleclick. Doubleclick is their baby. They made an acquisition of their company. Google took over Doubleclick. I don't remember what the exact terms were. Probably ridiculous though. It was in 2008 I think. I could be wrong on that one though....

If it's from Doubleclick it's legit. Trust me on that. I wouldn't lie about it.

You know how to search, right? Look them up. Find out. Investigate.

LOL.. I'm not sure it should even be called investigation. You've been around for a while sailorjwd. So has Doubleclick. I was sort of convinced it was common knowledge among adsense publishers. Do a right click/copy shortcut on an adsense ad.

Does it mention about doubleclick ? It should do... because everyone was informed to update it to include doubleclick. Failure to do so is breaking the Adsense TOS. So you can guess why some of us are surprised you've mentioned it.

Especially, since they have paid like clockwork since day 1.

And the fact that the email is not "no reply", which so often they are.
I guess we can easily say thanks, if we want to.

Look, this is a non-issue. It's a friggin' PR ploy. A way to make you feel all warm and rosy about your participation with the adsense program.

"Gee aren't we nice? Your money's coming!"

Yeah, well, you know what? It better be.

My take is that they're trying to stick their finger in the dike, salvage some publisher dissatisfaction, of which there's quite a bit.

If an email telling you that a company that already owes you money has decided to pay you can make you feel better.. well, then okay. I guess it's working.

It's essentially about the inclusion of Doubleclick in your privacy policy. Indicating to your site visitors that they exist.

I'm taking some liberty here but I'm fairly sure Lame_Wolf was asking if you'd heard of Doubleclick before. The reference to privacy policy was that if you were current and updated on it you would have.

No, not to some. If that's what they need to hear. I've been with your company from the start and you've never not paid me. I'm very satisfied with your payment arrangement. I'm satisfied with the options you give me to accept payment also.

I'll get paid next month. I'll get paid the month after that too. It'll be less and less because I'm phasing you out but that's not an issue I have anyway.

And it's just one email. It takes one click to delete it.

I'm not worried about getting paid. I'm worried about what I'm getting paid.

And that email is transparent anyway...

Everyone with an Adsense account was told to update their privacy policy to include Doubleclick. It should look something like this...

Well you're the lucky one, PIP last Friday, got the email late Monday night and still no MIB 2 days later, account still shows PIP, with no 'details', 5 days after it first appeared. That is not normal for Google.
