Beware that there is an email spam going out. Title:
"You've been issued a payment from Google AdSense"

Takes you to some doubeclick site.

You seem to be a little cranking Lame.

cranking ? new one on me.

Double negatives - yes I can search - you got it.

Not only was your double negative statement confusing. I could not make the link with search and doubleclick.

My privacy policy is up do date.

Then you would have known that Doubleclick is a part of Google, and therefore wouldn't have come in here about a "fake" email from "some" doubleclick site.

I know doubleclick for many years and never liked them.

Same here, but what the feck that has to do with a "fake" email has nothing to do with it.

Google's been sending this email for a few months now...always a few days after the payment has been issued.

Google's been sending this email for a few months now...always a few days after the payment has been issued.

They started it way back last year. Then, the email would arrive up to a week after the money was actually in the bank. They then stopped sending them out once they realised that it was a stupid idea. (or for whatever reason).

But they have reinstated it, this time before the money arrives in the bank. STILL a stupid (and pointless) idea.

I've never opened any of the emails. I delete them from the server.

I can’t believe an email from google is upsetting so many people.

Heck, I get an email from the other two networks I use every month. I even get an email from my employer every time they deposit my paycheck.

I never thought to be mad at them for sending me a friendly reminder. Maybe I should get angry.

What about the many publishers that don’t follow their stats as closely as WebmasterWorld members or those that don’t receive a payment every month? Should they be mad also?

You are missing the point here. I see no evidence that people are angry / mad / upset that they received (or not received) an email from Google.

The whole task is pretty pointless. For years they have not done it, so to start doing it out of the blue, did make people look up.

The problem I can see arising is that the scammers will catch onto this.

What was annoying, was the fact that a senior member came in declaring it was fake, and that it goes to some doubleclick site. That is something you'd expect from a n00b, or someone who has just landed on Earth.

Like I have said before, every webmaster was told to update their privacy policy to reflect doubleclick etc.

Seeing that Google own DC, then I do find it rather puzzling as to why this thread started.

See ASA... more ruddy carbon footprints over this issue. Sack the person who thought of it, and take away his/her "employee of the month" tea cup. ;)

It's not upsetting, not in any real way. It's more an insult to my intelligence because I can see it for what it is. They're losing publisher confidence. They're losing confidence from users netwide.

It's not pointless to them. Pointless to us maybe. They're trying to stick bandaids on gaping wounds though. There's a good discussion going on at [webmasterworld.com ] .

They're trying to fix quite a bit. They're patching holes because they know they messed up.

When you're that large, your responsibility increases in proportion. You have an obligation to maintain absolute fairness. Google's dropped the ball on this one. Now they're trying to pick it back up.

It could very well be a "too little, too late" scenario though.

I'm guessing the publishers that don't get a check every month, and may not even check their stats every month appreciate this email.

I would if I was in that group.

The thing is, ken_b, I received this days ago and has only now just changed to payment issued.

If I were one of the above, I would be more happy to see the money arrive in the bank than an email telling me that I have been paid, when I haven't.

But it won't be long before the fake emails start. Believe me, it will happen.
I don't have a facebook or twitter account, but have started receiving emails telling me that there is an awaiting message.

I would if I was in that group.
You wouldn't ;)

Ken,

Thankfully, I’m not in that group. But If I were, I would appreciate the email as well.

Eh ? That doesn't make any sense at all.

If you did want the email, then you would want to be in "that group". So why say "Thankfully, I’m not in that group." ? Don't you mean "Regrettably, I’m not in that group?

No, I meant thankfully.

As in thankfully I’m not in the group that does not receive a check every month.

Lame_Wolf I’m not trying to make you mad.

In fact, when I received the email I went straight to WebmasterWorld and checked to see if it was real or not. Your initial post let me know that it was real. So I went back to work on more important things. Thank you for addressing the validity of the email quickly.

I only came back to this thread when I saw the post count rise significantly. I was surprised to see people complaining about receiving communication from Google. Most of the time people are complaining about not receiving communication form Google. It’s a funny mixed up world we live in…

Ah, that is where the confusion lies.
Up until now, I was asuming that there were two groups... one that received the email, and the other group that didn't receive one.

My apologies.
Lame_Wolf I’m not trying to make you mad.

No worries. You are not making me mad at all. Far from it.

In fact, when I received the email I went straight to WebmasterWorld and checked to see if it was real or not. Your initial post let me know that it was real.

And that is when the thread should have ended. ;)

So I went back to work on more important things.

So did I, and also kept popping in here in case anyone needed any help.

Thank you for addressing the validity of the email quickly.

No problem. Glad to have helped.
