February 2011 AdSense Earnings

3:16 pm on Feb 2, 2011 (gmt 0)

No problems, I'll start it:-)

Am I supposedly to accept without question that on the 1st February 2011 that global advertisers in my industry suddenly decided to increase their bids and that visitors thought it was a good time to start clicking?

It was my best day since 18th November 2010.

Page impressions normal.

My CTR returned to normal, i.e. pre-Thanksgiving Day

My eCPM returned to normal, i.e. pre-Thanksgiving Day

My EPC retuned to normal, i.e. pre-Thanksgiving Day

My earnings returned to normal, i.e. pre-Thanksgiving Day

I am expected to believe this is a "normal" advertising market?

Yesterday started poor; with a good number of visitors but below average CTR and very poor (pennies) EPC. Then it rebounded later in the day to an average (or slightly above average) EPC.

Today's been the same; bad so far. Hoping it'll change soon.

yesterday was good for me too...today my cpc is almost good but i am experiencing a decrease in visitors...usa bad weather or incoming super bowl events? what's your thoughts?

Yesterday earnings down 40% from 'average'
Fun! :-(
4:19 pm on Feb 2, 2011 (gmt 0)

Yesterday (Tuesday) was better compared to Monday and Mondays are our best day. Today cpc is down the hill again...it is a bit early so lets hope it improves but really, really low earnings.

Yesterday was right on the new "average" for me, which is about half of 2010's average.
Today looks like it might be slower.

Ups and downs, it's definitely not just Adsense. Other similar schemes, in my very recent experience, have even more dramatic ups and downs compared to Adsense.

I'm also experiencing the same larger than normal ups and downs in Adsense earnings. So I've decided to accept them and look at the long term trends (they also seem to be down unfortunately) which are not as dramatic as the recent day to day swings.

But another affiliate I use has incredibly violent swings which really freaked me out. But over the "medium term" (a couple of months) they have also evened out.

Maybe it's just the way things are at the moment.

I usually wait til the month is around 10 days old before I make any prediction on its outcome.

Isn't it normall to see a drop off at the end of the month and pick up at the beginning?

Advertisers may work on a monthly budget that runs dry at the end of the month and visitors paid monthly are less in a frame of mind to buy (or consider buying) when the bank balance gets low towards the end of the month.

February is not even 48 hours old yet.

This thread is for those of us who suffered massive and totally unexpected falls in AdSense earnings during December and January and if they are seeing any changes. January's 412 thread post was here:

[webmasterworld.com...]

As noted in my original post on 1st February my earnings returned to pre-Thanksgiving Day levels and yesterday was slightly better.

They've done something and it has nothing to do with the beginning or end of a month, absolutely no way do advertisers suddenly double their EPC budgets overnight and with an increase in CTR from visitors.

I just wonder how long my ride will last before they decide to flick that switch again?
4:58 pm on Feb 3, 2011 (gmt 0)

Well, that didn't take them too long to flick the switch back, my eCPM has halved and my actual EPC so far today is back to my January average.

Saw this thread yesterday as I noticed my earnings warming up ever so slightly. From experience I new better than to reply so soon as sure enough today's earnings are absolute rubbish.

Here's some food for thought: today started crappy for me too, but three of today's blog posts made up for the 20% earnings i was down... go figure...

What's worse is that i'm not sure i can do it again tomorrow....
1:02 am on Feb 4, 2011 (gmt 0)

Hmmm..."they" obviously read my earlier post and suddenly it went back to my pre-Thanksgiving norm! Honestly, just like that, within the hour.

Yeah, yeah...don't talk to me about AdSense fluctuations, I reckon it's because I have one of the original AdSense accounts and my hard drive section there is...hmmm...worn out for a clean description!

I'm going to experiment soon with a completely clean site, doing exactly the same thing, hosted elesewhere, totally untraceable to me and see what happens.

I'm about 65% down since November and on the 1st of Feb I logged in and saw the first 'normal' day in 3 months, normal ctr, cpm & impressions etc. On the 2nd Feb it changed back again.

Ah there was a time when my hopes and dreams knew no bounds and now I pray for normal. Lol.
9:25 am on Feb 4, 2011 (gmt 0)

Interesting, Thursday rebounded for me with some obviously well-paying clicks and I ended up with my old norm again, that's 3 days out of 3...it's not a trend yet but hopefully they've found and replaced my sticky circuit board/whatever:-)

@Kona: Lol. You broke the muffled stillness in me, and as funny as this seems, I am equally worried. Earnings are far off of the average, added to that is the lower number of days in the month of February.

@HuskyPup probably the adsense advisor here couldn't tolerate your whinings anymore... lol

I put adsense back last night on my main site to see how it'd perform. Was doing ok this morning but stats haven't move for at least 6 hours today. Nothing.

Mine was horrible today to. I just dont understand the crazy swings lately with ctr
11:02 am on Feb 5, 2011 (gmt 0)

My CPC has been doing better recently. Whilst on the 1st and 2nd it was very poor (pennies) for half of the day (before fully recovering later in the day), it now seems to be steady overall.

I am one of the "lucky" ones still having horrible Adsense days...or should I say daze. January and so far February have been just awful. When will it end? :(

Today is baaaaad.
But I'm gonna chalk it up to the Superbowl.
Yeah...that's it....
9:07 am on Feb 7, 2011 (gmt 0)

Yesterday was the worst I have ever seen. Almost no click.
One of my site which has never below 8-10% CTR, had 3% CTR yesterday.

this website is running for 1.5 years and its CTR never below %8 until yesterday.

Other websites were also very bad yesterday.
