Today is the highest earning AdSense day I've had in many, many months. Overall, August has been returning above average earnings for me, but today it's close to making September 2008 numbers. Hope it stays this way. Thanks Google!

I was hoping to see some 'August 18 - Disaster' kinda thread. Lowest eCPM in months on 18th. But this trend for my sites matches last years reports. Once September comes, I'll see eCPM going up considerably.

First week in August was good for me, last week and a bit has been quiet. I have never found a pattern on my site.

@dawnstar I'd all but given up on ever seeing earnings like these again, it's great to see they're still possible, yay!

@Play_Bach Shhhhh! Dont jinx it!
Definitely shhhh...so far this month I am nearly +8% ahead of last month BUT just over +34% for the same period 1-18 August 2009 and nearly +21% for the entire year so far...shhhhh:-)
From a B&M point of view I have customers who are running very short on stocks and having to wait for consignments to be produced and shipped!

@HuskyPup I'll tell you one thing I'm not doing today, I'm not changing a thing with my site design. :-)

Just about an hour and a half left for today here (SF Bay Area), with earnings at about 25% less than yesterday. Still well above what I've been seeing for so long, so very welcome numbers. Hope the upward trend continues!

I've been on a great (unbroken) run since 13th August, with 15th August being my best day for 14 months. I haven't seen anything like this for a long time. CTR is up, and each click is earning more on average than normal. I haven't a clue why because I haven't touched anything for several weeks.
Adsense for Search has also been performing very well lately. Page impressions for search are about 1% of page impressions for content, but CTR is about 30 times higher.
This comes at a time when I have made no updates to my sites for several weeks. Adsense is a complete black box mystery to me.
I've lurked on this forum for a long time, and I've read other blogs and articles ever since I became a publisher. I've tried all the tips and tricks that are 'guaranteed' to increase income but whatever I do seems to have very little noticeable impact.
However, the things we are not aware of have and no control over that go on in the background make a huge difference.
My earnings each day should be far more random than they are. I never know who will arrive each day, and who will click. Earnings should be up and down like a yo-yo if everything just stayed the same.
But this isn't what I see.
I've had good runs in the past when I see consistently good earnings on consecutive days, and then I get consistently bad runs. It's not me changing anything so something is happening in the background.
My conclusion to all this is that there are certain well-known things to consider as a publisher (formats, colours, placements, etc), but once this is done just leave things alone. Don't sweat, thinking there is a little tweak you can make to get earnings back again.
I've been down this road several times during bad runs, trying everything anyone suggests, but nothing works.
Also, based on my experience with Adsense for search and the low PIs but extremely high CTR, I would definitely recommend adding this feature if you don't already use it.
I'm very pleased at the moment but I'm afraid I am not as optimistic as some other posters. As I said, I've seen these good runs before, but then they end just as suddenly as they started. This is what I expect to happen soon with the current good run.

@Jaideemaak I agree about leaving things alone. It's been my experience that tweaking things while earnings are good usually backfires. For example, years ago I just changed the page titles slightly. That was all it took to reposition my site lower in the serps and it took several months for my site to crawl back up.

August has been amazing for me. It could end up being my best month ever.
Maybe the new ad formats are helping?

I saw this post and was gonna post we are as well having a great day, well one site is rocking. It always bothers me when a site that has never done so well all of a sudden just jumps out in the lead by a wide margin. So I do some research to see a possible reason. I look at my searchs and see one search over and over hmm wonder why and get busy with another task. Well few minutes latter get a call guess who from the person doing the search. They ask me why when they click on the link it doesn't go to their site (this is a company article we did). I get the search she was doing (kinda already knew) and I tell her it does go to the company article we did on them. Then she says no it goes to another website hmm I then ask her are you clicking on the google ads? She says what is that. I then have to go into a 10 minute lesson teaching her what adsense and adwords are. After I explain all that she then ask me again why it won't go to their site. I don't know what to say now and tell her each time she clicks on the link it is costing another company about 3 bucks and please don't be clicking on them anymore. I tell her what we are doing is legal and if they would like to add their link please let me know.
I thought by now most if not all knew what ads by google was but I was wrong. This person was operational manager for a large company. Wonder if Google will kick out all the clicks she had been doing.

Slow day today - stats almost frozen. However the trend in August has been better. Some of that is due to more traffic on one of the sites but other sites are performing well too.

Ads are suddenly and completely off target. Not even remotely related to the content or to each other. Now why does that happen when I have changed nothing?
Was a good day. Now CTR is tanking.

Yeah, August has been pretty good so far and today, Saturday, August 21st CTR is off the chart. Almost 200% increase and is only 4:20pm pacific time. I did put these two sites in my "allowed sites" list last night:
Yesterday wound up as the second highest earnings day this month! Not sure exactly what's going on, though it looks like the new AdSense ad formats may be one of the reasons for the bump. Today is looking very good so far too!

It seems every day I'm breaking the daily earnings record from the previous day. I don't know what Google is doing but whatever it is, keep at it! August has been the best month in many years.
I'm trying to figure out what's going on? Should I? I'm intrigued. Is it Yahoo and Bing putting pressure somehow... somewhere? Is it the bad rep. they've got lately? What is it?
