"Third party advertising companies may also collect information about other sites you have visited in order to display appropriate advertisements on this site."
Added this after the bit that said third parties may use cookies or beacons, and before the bit that explanes a bit more about cookies and a link to a site with more cookie information.
I have updated all my sites even if they don't have Adsense on at present.
As was pointed out when Google last insisted we update our policies, how many people actually read it, and if evryone has a similar sort of thing, it is not going to put people off.
Last time Google asked us to update our privacy policies, I felt they had done me a favour - forcing me to check it was upto date and covering all possibilities.
Google provides some more guidance on what they want from us (actually linked from the email: [google.com...]
But I'm opting out, I don't like them tracking me that way and can't allow them to use it on my site.
Note this though:
[google.com...]
They want us to adapt the privacy policy regardless of turning it off as it seems the turn off of the feature doesn't entirely work or so (it's confusing to say the least)
I'm noexpert butI don't see this as a big problem.
I agree that it's not a big problem for us to implement but if Google is changing something that may have legal implications for their advertisers and this has an opt out then should they not be offering an opt in before implementation?
What happens to the many advertisers who will not see Google's email about this because it got caught in a spam filter or whatever?
I feel it's the publisher's responsibility to set up their email to get every message from the Googleplex. Personally I created a new email just for G which can never get spam b/c it's not used for anything else. Publishers need to realize if they don't have something like this, they could lose their Adsense account.
I had used an email address for AdSense that I used on one website, and it got a ton of spam. I ended up missing the Adsense email, which asked for site changes, and then because I didn't make them, my account was suspended for several days, costing me a bunch of money. That's why I now use an exclusive email address.
p/g
Can someone please tell me where I can update my privacy policy in the Adsense account?
I'm curious if this has already been rolled out, given the recent problems with AdSense lately, and my AdSense down about 10% since, it makes me wonder.
I'm going to turn this off and let others beta test it :). Granted, as a user, I wish I saw ads targeted towards my interests no matter what site I was on. However for that type of information, the ecomm sites I shop on would have to have Adsense on them as well to pick up that data.
Unless they're using Analytics to track as well... =/?
Just a stupid question (but it is good to be 100% sure), if I had turned it off, do I still need to update my privacy policy?I hope it doesn't need to be updated. Don't have time to work for Google.
According to this:
[google.com...]
you DO have to update your privacy policy even if you opt out:
I've opted out of ads based on user interest categories. Do I still need to change my privacy policy?Yes, you'll still need to update your privacy policy. [...]
But that page lacks a lot of clarity on the reason, a bit more explanation of what opting out actually means would be in order.
