My Adsense Income is Pathetic

I have a website that has a PR of 4, gets at least 20,000 visitors per month, aminimum of 125,000 page views and is on page one of the Google search results for my most important keyword. Been at it for a number of years yet the income from Google Adsenese just about pays my expenses. I also own and manage several other sites with Adsense interspersed throughout.

I have seen other posts on this forum discussing anywhere from $200 to $500 Adsense income days. Is this total BS or is it possible on a sustained basis, and if so what are they doing that's so different?

Thanks to all of you and your suggestions. I'll give it a go on the ad size to see what happens.

Why would a 336 x 280 be better than a 300 x 250 or a 200 x 200?

I have good results with 160 x 600 and 300 x 250 - both better than 728 x 90 on my site. johnie, could you elaborate on why you think the 336 x 280 is the best...I've never used it but probably could.

My rates have tanked the last few days. Anyone else?

Are you referring to EPC? Mine has been up noticeably in the last few days--along with traffic and CTR, as mentioned earlier. But that's what I'd expect for my topic after the holiday season. (If I had a site about Christmas gifts, Santa Claus, suits or eggnog recipes, I'd probably be seeing a decline.)

I usually put two 336 x 280 or 300 x 250 together, this will be better.

The CPC is around .20. but the overall CTR has gone down. Think I should change the colors? Blue border with grey inside.

Compworld, no offense but stop trying to hijack the thread.

I think 336x280 is best because:

- My own experience suports it
- It is large and thus hard to miss
- It gives greater exposure and more whitespace for your ads
- With adsense, bigger is better IMHO

We've just sold a site that was producing $100 - $150 per day in adsense income and had been doing so for more than a couple of years so it's very possible. The large 336x280 blocks have worked well for us to the extent we don't use anything else and with our remaining sites our adsense income continues to increase. The trick is to pick the right vertical and build a quality site around your niche.

Kidder, is it possible to reveal the number of visits you get per day or month to make that daily amount? Sure would like to know if I have a volume issue, ad size issue or even a niche issue.

For all the rest, I've changed a few things around and used the larger 300x250 within the content pages. I'll give it a few days and let everyone know how it's worked.

kidder,

Just out of curiosity, how much would a site making 100.00- $150.00 a day sell for?

Enquiring minds want to know ;~)

Well I'll be....

I reread the Google support doc talking about recommended ad sizes and they include the 336x280, so they recommend those three ad sizes.

I've gone ahead and changed my 300x250 banner to rotate 50% of the time it shows 300x250 and 50% of the time it shows 336x280. I'll give it a week or so and see which performs better in the same spot. If anyone cares I'll report back ;-)

Lovejoy, I know you're not asking me, however I think I can add value here. I recently bought a site earning about $300/mo. I paid about 16 month's revenue for it. No members, no forums, no blog, simply a static HTML site. I've since been able to generate just over $1K per month on that site alone without changing content or increasing traffic. From what I can tell small to medium size sites tend to sell for between 12 and 24 month's profit. Larger sites can be much more depending on size of niche, number of members / forum posts, etc.

The sale price was between 170 - 200k and adsense was the bulk of the revenue, there were other factors above and beyond revenue that helped determine the price. Traffic levels reach up to 15,000 uniques per day.

We have another site producing similar numbers on just 10% of the traffic volume - different site, different niche, different user motivation. It's not always about getting the most traffic but getting the right sort of traffic in a good niche will make you money. Channel reporting will tell you everything you need to know about where to invest your time an effort.

It's early yet I've started to see an uptick in my income since I have been using the larger 300x250 ads on my site. I would have never thought that they would make that much of a difference.

I'll keep all of you posted.
