currently my average resides at $7.10
Write an ebook and outline how you did it.
I'll probably buy it.
edit: as eCPM is calculated by page impressions, I think it would be better to also state page impressions as the higher the impressions the ecpm will obviously get smaller.

And why is that? Is the bottom line the stable factor? I don't see your statement being obvious. Also for many publishers, including me, an eCPM of $7.10 is very high indeed. I can see such figures in very low traffic channels but definitely not on the whole picture.
stevelibby, work on getting visitors, like others said. There's nothing wrong with your eCPM (not knowing anything about your niche, that is).
as mine is always in the $40's
As Bddmed said, hopefully you're getting rich however in my experience across many sites and channels that sort of metric is usually on low volume sites/channels.
For instance I have about $283.00 eCPM on one site today, alas only 3 clicks, and on another about $71.00 eCPM yet only 9 clicks. My overall eCPM for today is a much higher than normal $7.50'ish at more than $11.00.
In 2006 my eCPM averaged in excess of $12.50, oh for those days again...therefore if you have a $7.10 eCPM with several hundred clicks per day then I'd venture to say you're amongst the best earners of the small publisher school making several thousand Dollars per month however if you have any employees and big expenses then you would need clicks in the thousands per day.
Of course, it also depends where you live etc...YMMV
- Decreasing the number of ad units
- Playing around with colors and blending (split test)
- Enabling image ads
- Changing ad placement
There's lots you can do.

depends what you mean by low volume, my traffic is around 1800 to 2500 page views per day, it's difficult NOT quoting exact figures as it's not allowed, but let's just say, I've been with adsense since the start and bought a R32 May 07 from my earnings.
That's why I questioned the $7.10 as I thought it was extremely low
Without the other stats to go with it, sharing your eCPM is pretty much useless. The only stat that you should try and increase is unique visitors to your site.
Is not against google TOS to talk about eCPM in the open?
Generalisations and approximations are ok, actually it's good to see this since it really does show the extreme variations from one site to another. We need some of the 1 million a day impression forum publishers with their ultra low eCPMs chiming in.
my traffic is around 1800 to 2500 page views per day,
Heck, I have one page alone (like many others) with that number of views and it has never crept above $1.00 eCPM whereas other pages are regularly in the US $10-20-30 per day.
At a rough guess then you earn about $500 per month. Is this sufficient for your expenditures? It all depends where you are based.
At the end of the day it's the actual earnings with a reasonable EPC that counts. I could easily add several extra thousands of unique pages however experience has taught me that they simply do not pay therefore the effort's not worthwhile at the moment...maybe one day when I have the spare time I'll do them!
The above numbers are not real. Don't have a fit about me publishing my real numbers.
Would you call that an -- average earning site -- or low?

For my sites, judging by the above comments, I have a mega high eCPM in one of them, a good one in another and average in yet another. But the huge variety of eCPM across the subjects of a site differ massively.
Say you are in the widgets sector and your eCPM is good. As you expand your site to cover various subject areas for widgets, I guarantee you that the pages which deal with selling high value items associated with widgets will be the ones where you can earn a real living from. Esoterical articles on the various chemicals used in the manufacture of widgets will provide little income. But the pages analysing the high value end of the widget market will be big earners. In general anyway.

Thats too much ads per page in my opinion. Leaderboards at bottom or top is very poor earners and drag down the total earnings for me. so i don't use that placements. A big box at first fold next to content and a vertical adlinks on the left column works the best for me.
