as of now i skip the wizard!
anyone seeing this wizard? what's your comments, whether it will be neccessary to change our login or we can continue with our old one?
when i try to merge mine it says
"There is already an account with that username"
Oh really, that wouldn't be the Google account I'm trying to merge it with now, would it?
Looks like an erroneous message to me. This is a system glitch and it has been going on for almost 2 weeks now.
Those affected should notice under "My account" tab >> "account access" that the same email login is appearing twice...to me, indicating a system glitch/error!
My two cents, do not merge any accounts.....click "Skip this wizard for now" instead.

--I don't like it any more than I'd like using my Yahoo ID to log into my bank's website.--Would you feel uncomfortable using your Yahoo ID if Yahoo was your bank as well?
Speaking of which, is Google Checkout at all involved in this ID consolidation plan?
Now I have two accounts with the same name and email address...ugh
Dito! since the last time round when they had the bright idea to merge logins.
Perhaps if this had been planned from the start properly Google wouldent have this farce of an accounts system in place right now!
One account for all services from the start. if you wanted more than one account for business etc just sigh up again.
Forcing users to register for different services, then merge them all into one is just one big mess.
I have already lost access to Adwords, Orkut and the one gmail account that I actualy used!
Get used to seeing users opt to skip!
Mack.
But it's so so stupid - from a company that should know better.
I want to access to gmail in internet cafés, friends houses etc - when I don't have my laptop (but I don't) - I do not want the same password against my analytics, adsense and adwords.
Been annoyed by this for a long time - glad I'm not the only one.

Incidentally, I don't think this is at all "evil" on Google's part, but I do think it's surprisingly naive of them.

is it compulsory? Can we skip it for ever?
What the hell?!
I have since figured out it has created 2 adsense accounts with the same email, and to login to my old one that has the non-zero balance, I need to be logged out of gmail. If I'm logged into gmail, I get the new, zero balance account.
Wow, that's really odd. Did you check to see if both accounts have the same publisher ID? It's on the bottom of the page of the "My Account" tab, in the Account Settings section.

You're using a personal email for a business, that same email that would receive password reminders, earning reports and statistics is the same one you want to use at cyber cafés to email friends?
No - read carefully - I'm unable to use my gmail account for personal mails or in internet cafes because of this.
>> that same email that would receive password reminders, earning reports and statistics is the same one you want to use at cyber cafés to email friends?
Which is why I am so annoyed that google forced the merger of my adsense and gmail accounts.

Yes, similar thing happened to me. I used to use my personal email address to access Orkut and my business email address to access AdSense. When after constant prompting from Google I agreed to merge accounts I then found myself forced to use my personal email address and password combination - the same combination that I use for Orkut - any time I wanted to access Adsense.
How does this help anyone?
Surely - surely! - it must be possible to have a merged account which can be accessed only by one username and password combination on some applications and only by another username and password combination on other applications?
Google? Are you listening?
I sign into adsense with a different email address than my Google account, but I would *like* to merge this into my Google account. It appears to be an option, I'm asked to sign in using the existing Google account (which has never had AdSense attached it before so it shouldn't be a problem) and I get this error:
Warning
A user with the email you specified already exists
Please select a different Google Account login to access this account.
Uh, yeah, I know it already exists - I just logged into it! That was the point. What the heck does this mean?
Warning

Yes, that's what happened to me too. And somehow I ended up with 2 logins with the same email and password, but with different publisher ids.
I still haven't heard back from google support - almost 2 weeks now. Does anyone have an address that they actually check? Or should I just give up? I "found" my old account with the $ in it, I just have to log out of gmail first. What's the definition of "merge"? Sigh.

My next screen, with the title:
Update your AdSense and AdWords login to a Google Account
has the following message block:
Are you one of the following people?* headhoncho@mydomain.com
If so, then you've already updated your login to a Google Account.
Return to AdSense and use your Google Account to sign in.
Of course when I click the link in the last line to return to AdSense and log in again, it returns me to this exact same page. I'm assuming I don't have to do anything besides clicking "Skip this wizard for now."
Oh, and if you click the "Why is my AdWords login changing too?" under common questions, it takes you to an error page.
