today morning while i try to login into the account a new wizard opened and asked me to update the login information. they are providing new google account through which you can login adsenes, orkut, gmail etc.,

as of now i skip the wizard!

anyone seeing this wizard? what's your comments, whether it will be neccessary to change our login or we can continue with our old one?

when i try to merge mine it says
"There is already an account with that username"
Oh really, that wouldn't be the Google account I'm trying to merge it with now, would it?

Looks like an erroneous message to me. This is a system glitch and it has been going on for almost 2 weeks now.

Those affected should notice under "My account" tab >> "account access" that the same email login is appearing twice...to me, indicating a system glitch/error!

My two cents, do not merge any accounts.....click "Skip this wizard for now" instead.

--I don't like it any more than I'd like using my Yahoo ID to log into my bank's website.--

Would you feel uncomfortable using your Yahoo ID if Yahoo was your bank as well?

I wouldn't dream of it. Would you merge your PayPal account with a chat room login? How about with some Instant Messenger program?

Speaking of which, is Google Checkout at all involved in this ID consolidation plan?

Now I have two accounts with the same name and email address...ugh

Dito! since the last time round when they had the bright idea to merge logins.

Perhaps if this had been planned from the start properly Google wouldent have this farce of an accounts system in place right now!

One account for all services from the start. if you wanted more than one account for business etc just sigh up again.

Forcing users to register for different services, then merge them all into one is just one big mess.

I have already lost access to Adwords, Orkut and the one gmail account that I actualy used!

Get used to seeing users opt to skip!

Mack.

I caved also - fed up with the reminders.

But it's so so stupid - from a company that should know better.

I want to access to gmail in internet cafés, friends houses etc - when I don't have my laptop (but I don't) - I do not want the same password against my analytics, adsense and adwords.

Been annoyed by this for a long time - glad I'm not the only one.

They should know better, that they should do all they can to protect financial relationships. Yahoo does:

Incidentally, I don't think this is at all "evil" on Google's part, but I do think it's surprisingly naive of them.

Stupid me. I went through the wizard for merging accounts, thinking since I'm already using my google account anyways, I would just indicate that's what I'm doing. But it doesn't work properly as I found out when my adsense balance was 0 for all time. I emailed google support last week and haven't heard a peep. I suspended my adwords campaigns. I have since figured out it has created 2 adsense accounts with the same email, and to login to my old one that has the non-zero balance, I need to be logged out of gmail. If I'm logged into gmail, I get the new, zero balance account.

What the hell?!

Wow, that's really odd. Did you check to see if both accounts have the same publisher ID? It's on the bottom of the page of the "My Account" tab, in the Account Settings section.

You're using a personal email for a business, that same email that would receive password reminders, earning reports and statistics is the same one you want to use at cyber cafés to email friends?

- They have different publisher id's, I didn't think to look.

I have been skipping this wizard for probably a year now.

It basically was forcing me to open yet another account, not consolidating the ones I had. I suspect they are now propagating this change (whatever it is) to areas outside the US.

So I've been "Skippin this Wizard" for a long time!

No - read carefully - I'm unable to use my gmail account for personal mails or in internet cafes because of this.

>> that same email that would receive password reminders, earning reports and statistics is the same one you want to use at cyber cafés to email friends?

Which is why I am so annoyed that google forced the merger of my adsense and gmail accounts.

I use a simple form script on my PC that lets me login with just one click.

Yes, similar thing happened to me. I used to use my personal email address to access Orkut and my business email address to access AdSense. When after constant prompting from Google I agreed to merge accounts I then found myself forced to use my personal email address and password combination - the same combination that I use for Orkut - any time I wanted to access Adsense.

How does this help anyone?

Surely - surely! - it must be possible to have a merged account which can be accessed only by one username and password combination on some applications and only by another username and password combination on other applications?

Google? Are you listening?

Tried to do it but it doesn't work properly, and I had to skip it for now. I would *like* to do it, maybe they'll fix it one day.

I sign into adsense with a different email address than my Google account, but I would *like* to merge this into my Google account. It appears to be an option, I'm asked to sign in using the existing Google account (which has never had AdSense attached it before so it shouldn't be a problem) and I get this error:

Warning
A user with the email you specified already exists
Please select a different Google Account login to access this account.

Uh, yeah, I know it already exists - I just logged into it! That was the point. What the heck does this mean?

Yes, that's what happened to me too. And somehow I ended up with 2 logins with the same email and password, but with different publisher ids.

I still haven't heard back from google support - almost 2 weeks now. Does anyone have an address that they actually check? Or should I just give up? I "found" my old account with the $ in it, I just have to log out of gmail first. What's the definition of "merge"? Sigh.

I had to update my simple one-click form script on my PC since they made the change to the new AdSense login. Here's the script:

<form action="https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLoginBoxAuth" method="post">
<input type="hidden" name="continue" value="https://www.google.com/adsense/login-box-gaiaauth">
<input type="hidden" name="service" value="adsense">
<input type="hidden" name="Email" value="YOUR_EMAIL" id="Email">
<input type="hidden" name="Passwd" value="YOUR_PASSWORD" id="Passwd">
<input class="form" type="submit" value="AdSense Login">
</form>

Just change "YOUR_EMAIL" and "YOUR_PASSWORD" to your email address and password.

This notice just started showing up for me. I think I'll put off updating as long as they give me a choice.

At me, it's absolut chaotic.

It seems I have maybe an AdSense and a Google account with the same email address.

So I tired to give the same email address again

"An account with this email address already exists"

greatstart, the form doesn't get around the problem of having the migrate screen annoyance (or any of the other problems people here are having).

Are you saying it has for you?

The form I use is only for quickly logging into AdSense after you update your login change. This way each time you log in, you just click once, no need for typing your email address and password over and over.

When I login to my AdSense account, I use my e-mail address, for example's sake, let's say it's headhoncho@mydomain.com.

My next screen, with the title:

Update your AdSense and AdWords login to a Google Account

has the following message block:

Are you one of the following people?

* headhoncho@mydomain.com

If so, then you've already updated your login to a Google Account.

Return to AdSense and use your Google Account to sign in.

Of course when I click the link in the last line to return to AdSense and log in again, it returns me to this exact same page. I'm assuming I don't have to do anything besides clicking "Skip this wizard for now."

Oh, and if you click the "Why is my AdWords login changing too?" under common questions, it takes you to an error page.

It asked me to update my login yesterday, having seen this thread, I proceeded with much trepidation and it worked flawlessly. coincidentally my eCPM is up about 50% today. Go figure. :)

I don't like it. If someone gains access to my GMail account, they now have access to my AdSense account also.

Yeah it's not good at all. I always keep my eggs in different baskets so I have to log in to many different accounts, but still it's a pain in the proverbial when I log in now and it says " are you blah blah@blah blah.com? If you are then go back and log in again" which of course does not work with opera.

This is another item that I'd like to see ASA comment on. Does Google understand our uneasiness with having to mix our business with more casual Google related functions? Do they even know people are concerned?

I've been writing with Google support about this, and they won't let you merge a google- and a non-google adsense account if adwords and adsense weren't merged at the tme when the accounts were set up. I've suggested deleting the adwords account and then recreating them, but no, google won't accept it. The trap was set and now has been sprung, you need to start all over - and they apologize for the inconvenience!
