LOL. I can appreciate that. But you can tell her that you could have chosen an expensive hobby rather than one that pays you, so really it's the same as if you were making hundreds per month, maybe even thousands.

In summary I hit the $150 since month one and stayed there for 1.5 year of course in the beginning it took me a lot of efforts to promote the site since i wasn't yet indexed by google. but for some reason i was never able to break the $150 before this month.
Just a bit of advice take full advantage of your early days with AS smart pricing hits pretty quick

I don't "promote adsense" now I just add contents.
Before my site got indexed by google I was always trying to promote in in forums, emails etc...
since it got indexed (it took 6 months to appear in google) I just work on contents (about 1 hour per day)
I have about 1.5k unique hits per day and a CTR of aprox 2%
but i'm still FAR from making all my living on the net

If you are publishing good content for the world, that means you are getting paid for doing a good thing. How awesome is that?
ok i'm trying not to get too overexcited I know it can't last but still it is good to have it even if it just for one day (and the day is not yet finished :))

Have you noticed a relationship between your earnings and the quality of your content? I mean - if the content is not as good and throughout as it possibly could be, have you noticed higher earnings?
I'm not sure if you track your outgoing clicks somehow, but do your users click more often on the Adsense links from a page that has a better quality content than from a page that has less quality content?
You should be able to double that easily. What's your Adsense Profile (page layout, ad position, ad size(s), percentage of pages with ads, number of ads/page, color scheme, blending/not, etc.)?

Anyway, the lesson here is to focus on what makes you {...} and grow it, then the {........} will follow, or whatever that means!

2% may or may not be a good CTR, depends on the pages and the users.
My theory is that it's the people who just pop in and out who tend to click on ads. Regular visitors may click now and then but if you find what you want on a site site why click on an ad?
It's still good to have solid content as it brings visitors who tell others about the site and may even link to it.
But having been in a rut for a while on what I make I'm thinking of adding something like a directory of terms and pattern names for my hobby just to add pages that might attract more quick visits.
My first site launched in January 2005. This site made mere pennies and it took me over a year to get my first payment. Three months after my first payment, I was stable to the point of making $150-$200 monthly from that one site. That continues until today.
On October 14th I launched a new site. It made me $50 the first day and stayed in the range of $40-$75 until the very end of October. I ended up having my first $1000+ month in October! I am very excited!
The new site, however, slowly has started to die down in traffic and my eCPM has effectively went down by half. I only make around $10-$20 a day from it now, in addition to the $7-$8 from my old site. I will probably end up with around $800 this month.
can you tell us a bit more about how do you do that?
we still are making around half what you are making....
so lots of optimization to be done in our sites................
but we have done many things now...read around 3 books on adsense tweaking and thousand of posts...still.....so next..we are thinking....
we have done all basic things are 100% clear and use legal ways only....
any suggestions...

The site was doing a lot more than $10-$20 a day the first month, but it has went down to those numbers now.
The site is related to a video game. I launched the site by ONLY posting links to it on two message boards and I got 50,000 page impressions the first day. I get around half that right now, but I'll be launching a ton of new features shortly that will help to increase my visits again.
I offer a unique site that isn't just the content you are thinking of. I really don't even have to do anything like write content. The site gets it's data by itself. You could call it a statistics website for this video game.
