But each has made more today (Tues April 13, 2004) than any other day in their AdSense earnings history. If one or two publishers had reported this, it could be coincidence. But six publishers in such different keyword areas, impressions and CTRs have all reported the highest daily earning total ever - and noticeable in a period when so many publishers have had record-low earnings (including at least a couple of those 6 publishers) in the first 12 days of April.
Could the AdSense team have received enough less-than-glowing feedback to make a change or a rollback to the "new and improved" AdSense that publishers have been experiencing since the beginning of the month? Was this April 1st - April 12th period the "New Coke" phase of AdSense?
There has been plenty of negative feedback to these new chages, with publishers threatening to leave and try competitors. But if publishers start recording record high earnings, will the first 12 days of April be shortly forgotten and AdSense will once again claim the golden image of being the best-thing-going for content site owners and hobby sites?
Timing is crucial, especially with Quigo's Ad Sonar poised to launch, supposedly this week. However, even that remains to be seen, since Ad Sonar has repeatedly pushed back their launch date. But for Google AdSense, having a competitor launch at a time when so many publishers are unhappy would be bad for AdSense and a dream come true for that competitor. And Ad Sonar could finally come through and launch this week, even if they wouldn't have otherwise, simply to capitalize on that publisher unhappiness.
Is this all just a mere coincidence? Or has there been a significant change in AdSense? There could have been an EPC split that is more favorable to publishers than it has been recently. Or the AdSense team could have tweaked their algo slightly so that publishers are getting better targeted ads than what was seen during the first 12 days of April, resulting in a higher CTR.
Are others seeing record or near-record earnings for Tuesday April 13, 2004? (Do make sure your stats have updated - some have reported much-delayed stats today, which often happens when there has been a change). Or noticed a significant change with better targeted ad or higher than normal CTR or EPC? Or anything else that could be attributed to a change?
Please, no gripes :) Keep it constructive and on-topic with what has changed with AdSense as of April 13th, why, and what it all means ;)
What I have done as well is add a number of pages that have adsense on it, so my impressions are up as well, but that in itself cannot account for the increase.
Even if I calculate that increase back out (channels are cute!) I'm still getting an increase in EPC.
I'm really worried about the EPC though: some of them are really as low as it gets, I want to set a low limit where I'd not get ads if they go below my limit (like adwords people get to set a high limit, I want a low limit, that's how a market works after all).
I have niche content sites and Google must not be giving me a very good matching rating or whatever they are doing to decide what clicks from my pages are worth. I suppose the other possibility is that advertisers are just bidding less in my topic.
I have to wonder if clicks from content sites really are worth less. Maybe more people buy when they click on an ad that is on a commercial site. Also an article has a lot of different words so the density of the words matching the ads would be less. Does anyone have any theories on all this?

I agree 100%. Targeting has been HORRIBLE. It seems like in my case the newest pages that are getting crawled by mediabot are having adsense ads relevant to that page stick on all other pages. If a new page is about green super widgets, another page with adsense will have ads for green super widgets but page may be about widgets in london, things unrelated is what i am trying to get at.
I do think my CTR and # of clicks is suffering a great deal due to the half assed targeting. What is the problem here? The first month i used adsense and i got my first check I was like "wow, this is easy", and now i am struggling to make enough through adsense to make anything worthwhile.
On another note, I applied for competing ad providers, and who knows, maybe this long time adsense publisher will bow his hat someday soon and say adios to google and hola to another program.
The ads are relevant to my site, so that's not the problem.
I think i am gonna sell my space directly to 2 or 3 shops, which give me more income i think
The gradual improvements we've had to the generally horrible April earnings over the past two weeks have suddenly been erased...
Since our site is kind of niche, i am pretty happy with it (my first google PR was 4 :) ), and with only 2 backlinks in google, i think that's pretty good.
But to be honest, i am not happy with my adsense income, with regular banners i think my income was much higher.
Thanks for sharing... I thought you said 15k page views DAILY. You didn't say that... my wrong assumption. That's still pretty good. But not sure when the diminishing marginal returns kick in. Never mind... my ECON 101 nightmare came back to haunt me again.
Would you mind PM me your URL? Just want to see if the site should be bookmarked.
From what I see, the targeting is becoming very generally related to the theme of my site.
I wish that were true! On my site, Google has been ignoring my site's theme in too many cases. Increasingly, the ads are based on keywords that are taken out of out of context, resulting in mismatches such as "fleet management" or "Denver auto broker" for a page that mentions short-term tourist leasing, "Visitor attractions IA" for a page about Italy that has "Visitors" in the title, and a dog-walking service in Connecticut for an article on Venice walking tours. Instead of relying on theme in cases of uncertainty, Google's algorithm is now making wild (and often inaccurate) guesses.
