(Done perfectly so that they can keep collecting interest through at least 12/27, even though it looks like they paid on 12/23)

If you are speaking from the UK then you're wrong i'm afraid, christmas day is today (sunday) so both monday and tuesday are bank holidays in the UK and for some reason my calendar is listing wednesday as a bank holiday also ( it may be a mistake) but for sure, banks are closed until wednesday at the earliest.
