What day does SmartPricing update?

Thursdays for me

Earlier this week I removed some "low performing pages", and am waiting to see if there is any impact on smartpricing. Whilst preparing stats on EPC, I discovered that Smartpricing updates happen on Thursdays for my account, and this has been the case for quite some time.

To see what day Smartpricing updates on your account, do the following:

  1. If you haven't got it already, download the CSV of aggregate earnings for the last few months and put it in an Excel spreadsheet
  2. Create a new column with a formula to calculate average EPC for each day
  3. Create a graph with date as the x axis and EPC as the Y axis
  4. Create a trend line of type "moving average" and period "7"
The trend line should then form a nice horizontal zig zag, and the points of the zig zags will be 7 days apart.
  5. Hover your mouse over the EPC point above or below each point of the zig zag, note the date, and look up the day of the week for that date
  6. Repeat the above step for a few other points to see if they are the same day of the week

For my account (one main site, some minor sites), all the points of 'change' in the last six months fell on a Thursday.

Is it the same for others?

Interesting post ,
My smartpricing seems to appear tuesday afternoon through wednesday and thursday then reflects new smartpricing algorithim

Once again I do this by looking at spikes not trend line which can change due to the smartpricing

One more interesting thing I have seen is as I have dropped poorly converting pages and sites and created changes to positioning and colors and quantitity of adds on a page it appears to bring up other sections of the site ecpm at the same time that have been unchanged in my case as much as 15% on channels that were untouched

From my own little perspective often less is more and pages that attract the same visitors day after day by removing adsense and using CJ smartzone text links have increased both CJ earnings and Adsense earnings

This is only my experience but was due to reading feedback from webmasters on this board who are much more succcessfull and knowledgeable than me

just my 2cents worth

I haven't been with Adsense long enough to prove your theory, but would agree that something happens on Thursdays.

Stats have been up and down since I joined, then I had six consecutively good days from last Friday to yesterday. Thought things were looking up, then micro-pennies per click today. Perhaps Thursday is UK smart pricing day?

Bah humbug.

Today has been rubbish for me also, I've had 300% more clicks than Wednesday, yet my income is down over 50% on yesterday!

How do you get a 300% increase in clicks over 1 day?

When you see a sudden drop in earnings (same CTR) it usally suggests a high bidding advertiser has dropped out, and everyone bidding for that keyword now pays less per click (2 cents per click higher than the next highest bidder) its a domino effect.

300% increase, I think is like saying, 3 times as many.

For example, if I had 100 clicks on Wednesday, and then 300 clicks on Thursday, that is an increase of 300%

I'm just chipping in to the chain of thought that smart pricing updates on a Thusday.

a better way to highlight what happened to me over the past 2 days is....
Wednesday 100 clicks, earning $50
Thursday 300 clicks, earning $25
No changes made to website, still serving the same adverts as usual.

My Thursday was the worse results in weeks.

It was NOT the EPC it was the CTR.

The targeting has failed.

As I started checking I found more than a dozen MAF and MAO/Y sites had suddenly shown up - many from the Oingo program.

Nothing but paid listings to click on.

I blocked them all but that makes 30 to 40 sites I had to block in the last couple of weeks.

I even had one site that when I clicked on the link in the Preview tool it wouldn't open a browser window to let me see the site - I blocked it too.

I understand WHY these sites are there but it's really bugging me that I have to spend my time blocking them.

Come on AS let's dump the garbage!

As a point of clarification, SmartPricing updates (on our account) at the end of Thursdays.

If you got one apple, and now have three, thats not a 300% increase. Thats a 200% increase. You forgot to subtract the original apple :O)
